Idemitsu just shows that people still think "more expensive = better". The same applies for filters. There is absolutely no need to buy K&N or Mobil 1 filters. When you change your filter every 3k miles religiously they'll all handle the filtering abilities. The main feature to look for is an anti-drainback valve to prevent dry starts (because of our filters position). One of the cheapest ones I've found is a Purolator PURE1. Great filter and it's only $5 (plus it's a neat blue color )

ive always just used either penzoil or valvoline 10w30 non synthetic...i was told that non synthetic was better for rotary engines and just kinda stayed w/ using it for the whole time ive owned the car. is this even remotely true? and how much better is synthetic over non-syn, is it even noticable?..

You know what? This is true for me from now on.
I used to be a diehard fan of castrol gtx. An oil that i been using in all my cars since the first car i owned. I lived by it. Well the new mobil 5000 oil that came out not too long ago, supposed to protect for 5000 miles guaranteed caught my attention. I decided to try it for the hell of it.
Well prior to mobil 1, when i still had castrol, my car would puff out some smoke upon initial startup for first 5-10 seconds (turbos prob on its way out, original 70k). I put in the mobil 5000 and no more startup smoke. I was a bit suprised so i did it again the next day and then the day after and each initial startup was smoke free. I was like wow, oil does make a difference.

Read the FAQ, there is a big synthetic/dino discussion linked in there.

Not rotary specific bu I bought a 93 Chevy S-10 brand new with the 4.3 in it. Broke it in on the factory oil for 500 miles. From then on it was Mobil 1 at 10,000 mile intervals. I sold it with 100,000 miles and at that time, it was only down 1 pint each oil change. Call bullshit all you want but it is a fact. Every oil change I was amazed by the cleanliness of drain oil and the amout left in the pan after 10,000 miles. Show me something that performs better than that and I'm in.

^^Yeah, they got me convinced.
I just did an oil change on my beater about a month ago, it has 172k miles. I used the castrol gtx high mileage. Every now and then upon initial startup, i get the blue smoke like on my FD, sometimes heavy, sometimes not and it lasts for about 10 seconds.
NOWWWW i will see the trueness about this mobil 1, cause next week, im gonna put that mobil 5000 also. I want to be truely convinced.

I can only go by experience. Most everything you here is propaganda. Dad had a ford 300 straight six which is supposed to run forever. He ran Amzoil in it and You would not believe the valvetrain damage at 60,000 miles. Mobil 1 is for real. All others will have to show me living proof other than "my friend says it's good".
