im curious about this.. the knock sensor doesnt sound too appealing.. 4 digit code? isnt that kinda easy to hack?

 

Right now my car is in the shop getting it's alarm installed. The way I am having it set up is with a proximity sensor and a remote pager. I am not getting a horn, so the thief will not even be aware that the alarm is going off. That way I can deal with the problem . The only downfall is if I'm out of the remotes range . That's why you carry good insurance. But that's just my two-sense.

The only tracking system used by Police in North America (Boomerang in Canada). With the system I have, the moment my car moves from its parking spot, LoJack attempts to call me to ask me if my car has been stolen. If they cannot contact me, they notify the Police to go find the car which is being tracked by GPS and is guaranteed to be found within a few hours.

Always a good think to have an alarm on the car, even if it's parked in a garage...you never know when you're going to need it.

I've heard good things about Viper alarms...I have Prestige on mine, but planning on switching to Viper in the future.

 

it's as secure as any ATM PIN or your tax return PIN. 4 digits is 10,000 combinations. Not something you'd be able to guess on the first try, and it'd notify you on the keychain just the same as if someone tried to pick your lock or jimmy the door.

 

I dont think it actually matters how many digits past 4 there are. Someone can either try a brute for approach and punch in numbers (retarded) or bypass whatever it is electronically so it really doesnt matter.

 

im just thinking more the lines of someone hooking something up to that sensor and being able to sscan like 100000 codes in a few seconds and find what yours is... kinda like in the movies.. but idk if thats real hahaha

 

If they can interface with the system like that they can probably just bypass it altogether. Thats funny though it is like the movies hahaha.

 

how about setting a system that shoots a flame up from underneath the driver and passenger side so their little sausage and peppers get roasted?

Actually thats not what happens, usually the car is recovered within an hour.

You are responsible for any harm your vehicle would do to a thief(or anyone else). Or say A little kid bumped into your car and those flames aimed at an adults "suasage" is now in the eyes of a little boy.

An alarm to me is for A: to keep honest people honest and B: for the convienence of keyless entry and so on.

 

lol and you think your car will be the same shape it was in 1 hour? I've seen people chop cars under 15 minutes with 4 people working on it. TRUST me if they really want your car there no stopping it even Lojack. Best feature about Lojack is that it lowers your insurance.

my cousin had it in his civic like...... 10 years ago and they took over 4 hours? to track it.. idk how much it has improve since then but i hope so...

how does payment for lo jack work? is it monthly payment or something?

 

I paid 3 years in advance cause its cheaper but you can do 1 year. Not sure if you can go monthly.

Haha, Lojack is a joke, a couple of my friends had Lojack and just for fun we decided to look for the module it took us less than 5 minutes to find it...most thieves know were to find it and remove, basically useless.

If you got lucky and got an amateur then your fine.

 

They have it.....sorta..... You just have to be driving it for it to work. I am sure it could be modified into an alarm thrower though.

Get a LOJACK & Alarm, like me with 2 back up batterys, true if a thief really wants ur ride theres pretty much nothing u can do, but with LOJACK aleast they'll get BUSTED

 

So...newb question...
I've read that many shops have trouble installing an alarm system on our cars, would it be the lack of the actuator on the driver side door?
How many people actually have the keyless entry, 2-way pager, and how well do they work without the JDM passenger side actuator? Did you install the system yourself or was it done by a professional shop?
I want to get a alarm with 2-way pager and remote keyless entry, so any input is appreciated.

edit. Although many people have stated the alarm system being useless above...I just want it to make myself feel a little bit better.
