Exclamation Belt tension gauge

I've looked around and found them made by Burroughs, Krikit, Kent-Moore, and Snap-On. Some of them claim to only fit up to 5-rib belts, for the others I can't find any info.

Since the FD drive belt is 6-rib, can anyone recommend a gauge that will fit both belts?

Dave

I have been looking for one too. I talked to the Mac guy and the Cornwell guy and neither sells them any more. They said nobody uses them.

BTW, I thought the alt./WP belt was a 5 rib?

Yeah, the alt/wp is a 5 rib K profile, 530 length. The PSP/AC belt is 6 rib K profile, 360 length.

It's really hard finding info on these things, but everyone who owns one and isn't afraid to admit it says it's the sh*t.

Go to ACE hardware and buy yourself a tape measure. Metric or standard. Hold it up to the belt and measure the deflection. It is that easy. You don't need to spend money on a usless tool when you may already have one in the tool box.
Just my opinion of course. Some may find the need for a tool but it really is simple to use a tape measure.

Plus it fits 5 and 6 ribbed belts with NO problems

Yeah, but I can use my thumb and make 5-10mm deflection with any tension setting.

I shredded a belt last week, and it wasn't that old. I'm not taking any more chances.

Good point. It does take a bit to get the"touch" for setting belt deflection. Aquired skill .

Like setting valve lash in a piston engine. The resistance desired for clearance "feel/drag" on the gauge is different between each mechanic.

If it makes your life/and the given job easier, Go for it. I have only seen this type of tool for the Motorcycle drive belts i adjust.
