Belt stops squeeking with wd40 sprayed on pulley underneath alternator
hey guys well i was telling you guys that my one of my belts was squeeking, so i decided to troubleshoot weather both were squeeking or just one belt was squeeking, so anyway i sprayed on the pulley right underneath the alternator where the belt on that pulley goes underneath it, so i sprayed on the shiny steel portion of that pulley with a little wd-40 and well the squeek stopped! what does that tell you? are the belts bad after all? or was it that because of the weather their wasnt much lubrication on the pulley? what you think?

if the belts are worn...
as rxrotary suggested ...replace them...
minor cost....
if not...adjust the tension through alternator as they may be tight..

brings back nightmares for me back when I had another car I did the same. Started her up and the belts somehow slipped off breaking the belt tensioner and other crap along the way. I wouldn't recommend it.
IMO, the squeak was more likely eminating from the bolts holding the pulley or the bearings behind the pulley. Don't think it would be a problem giveng them a little lubrication.....

If you get coolant on brand new belts they sometimes start squeaking. A little something like Armor All or silicone spray will work nicely to keep them from starting to squeak again. Becareful not to use something that will damage rubber, like oil.
This is a different squeaking than slipping belts. Don't tighten the belts too much. Tightening up the alternator belt a lot will destroy the water pump. The PS pump bearing gets burned out if you tighten the other belt to much.
