I'm gathering all the peices to relocate my battery to the rear bins and could usesome advise.
1..... I've noticed in other threads that some people use 0 gauge wire while others are using 2 gauge. Is the larger wire over kill or just perdonal taste?
2.....About how long will my power wire need to betoreach the pass. bin?
3.....What gauge wire should I run to the starter? and will I need abreaker in that line?
4.....What did you guys do with the stock negative cable? Did you cut it after it grounds under the driver side fusebox?
5.....I can't see the pix in the FAQ write-up thread so could those who have done this post some pix of how the battery is secured in the bin? (need some fabrication ideas)
Thanx
BTW I will be using a westo miata battery

THE LARGER WIRE ISNT WORTH IT AS I DONT USE IT!
i have mine around the rear cross member and its around the drivers side
1/0 gauge welder's cable, terminated at the SM's positive terminal
oh and if you plan on using an optima your going to need some cutting for it to fit as i had to do with mine!

At least a 150 Amp circuit breaker should be fine. In case you missed the link above you really should read this excellent writeup...
http://www.stanford.edu/~sunid/battery/
My battery relocation is very similar except I used...
2 gauge welding wire with generic ring terminals (2 gold plated ring terminals were included with my circuit breaker).
A generic brand 12V 160 Amp circuit breaker.

I am also following that write up in the link you posted. I know i will use a minimum of a 4 gauge wire, but i might increase that a little bit depending on what i find when i pick up the wire. I followed that link a lot and i even ordered from hifisound..... needless to say, i got only 1/2 of the stuff i ordered. the rest was different items of similar nature. IE ring terminals, battery terminals, covers. I will not be ordering from them again either due to this.
I am how ever switching stuff up a bit, i am using a different type of battery:

I have used it to jump my car with ease before. I have been taking my time on the battery relocation due to school, and i have recently been working on it more. I have a tray that has been fab'ed up and now i just have to mount the tray into the car and the rest will be easy from there.
The battery i know is very expensive, but you dont have to worry about venting it or it spilling due to leakage. I am very impressed by it. Once my relocation is complete, i will write more about the battery as well as a similar how-to using the products i used like the top link with a lot of the credit going to him. I chose this battery because of its size and weight, while keeping the output very high. Read up about it, its a bit biased tho due to its kinda new to the market.
Hope this helps.

Better late than never. Here is mine... I use the Westco Miata Battery... same is the guy that did the great write-up. I'm going to be painting the bottom portion of the clear battery surround red to clean it up a little. As always with my silver car, don't worry about that dust.
