I have a Baker Gell cell battery used for off road racing & it slides right in the bin behind the seat. My friend also uses it in his Supra with no problems yet :icon_tup: :icon_tup:

I used to be able to get honda optima batteries for 50$, it was a huge group buy or something. I will look into it, because that would definatley be great.

But for me, i have 3 optima batteries from working at autozone lol.

Optimas are absolute overpriced garbage! Two out of the three RedTop batteries I've had were lemons. One almost set my car on fire! Not to mention they weigh a ton. They have just recently raised the price on them as well.

I have a Yellow Top Optima for the Honda in my 7 and lately It's been dying on me within hours after I drive it and park it. I've only had the Yellow Top for a year and a half! :icon_tdow

I picked up a Die Hard as Sears auto was the closest to my location- it lasted 2 years but has a 60 month warranty - no hassle replacement. I put a shut off switch on the replacement when the car sits for more than a few days. I think I just passed my 3 year mark-no problems. Pretty good fit to stock size and plenty of cranking power - I did not want to go small as I have a mid size amp direct wired. Funny thing is I used the same tractor battery specified above to jump the car...

I know this sounds like a dumb ?, but if you do have a battery shut-off switch setup; will you lose any of your settings on say your electronic boost controller or more importantly your PFC?

The menu on your site doesn't seem to be working. Can you post any pictures? For those of you using one of the 925 batteries, does it fit in the bin without cutting? I have a red interior and I'm not crazy about the idea of hacking up the rear shelf since they are extremely hard to come by in that color.

What about the Stinger battery? They have a size that is close to the discontinued Optima 51R yellow top:

How do you know the Optima was the cause of the problem? Did you actually find that a reading (voltage, ect) was off , or did you just replace it with another battery and find that you no longer had the problem? I'm very curious about this because I had a mysterious ignition breakup problem on the 2-rotor that I was never able to track down. However, my battery voltage based on the datalogs was fine. Otherwise I was very happy with my Yellow Top. I put it through hell over the course of 2 years and it never let me down. After reading about your experience and RX794's I started looking into the Odyssey 925, but they seem to have their own set of issues, especially for cars that are not used regularly.

I went with the 51R from Costco that others have mentioned. It's noticeably lighter, has good cranking power, and you can't beat the price......$40. I kept the stock battery box. It helps insulate and cool the battery. The battery that came with the car lasted 11 years. The Costco 51R fits perfectly. The stock cross bar and tab holds it in place in the vented battery box.

I've been using an Odyssey PC680 since spring '05, and it has been very reliable as long as you're driving the car at least once every week or two. After sitting for about a month, it will need to be recharged. They are deep cycle batteries, which means you can recharge them after they've been drained, they won't have the "can't hold a charge" problem like some other batteries out there. The PC680 weighs 15 lbs, which is at least 20 lbs lighter than the stock battery. I've tried to drain it from short trips and cold weather (doesn't get much colder than 40-50F in the winter where I live), but had no problems. I've needed to have my battery recharged twice since I bought it, this was free at my local Autozone.

I called Optima and explained to them that I was getting 11.x volts with the battery fully charged (a few days charging on craftsman trickle charger). They explained the battary has something like 6 cells and one of them was bad. When the car was running you would not notice it since the alternator would make up the 12V. I had 2 of them go bad already but just don't want to take a chance so I run a regular battery now with no issues and I will change that as often as I need.

When I told Rx794 of the symptoms and issues I was having, he was having similar issues and it turned out to be his optima as well. When my car was my daily driver, I never had issues.

The last Optima I puchased was a "yellow-top" for my 1978 Dodge StreetVan, and it is 3+ years old, and driven/started once a month.

I have a Optima "blue-top" marine in my Mercedes that is over 6+ years old.

I have heard that when Optima was bough-out, it's manufacturing quality-control went down the tubes.

At least they stand-by/warranty their batteries fairly well.

With the PFC you won't, and I would guess it depends on the boost controller but I would imagine most controllers would be the same and the settings would be saved.
How do you think they mail you a PFC with maps on them?
