Battery Drain

I bought my car about a month ago, and had to replace the battery. Last night my battery was dead. Any ideas of how this happened, and if not should I take it to a shop? Also before my battery died the car was making a whining noise, but not all the time for a period of two days it stopped and then started up again.

Could be a bad alternator. If it was bad, it might whine. Do you know if your car has a fan modification done? Do the fans stay on after you turn the car off?

Yeah check the fans, search on "fan mod" if you need more info. What is the car's history? Mine was in a minor front end accident and I've had to track down shorts and stuff before things got straightened out. Electrical stuff sucks.

I know the car was not in an accident, and am pretty sure the fans do not come one after its turned off. Is there a way for me to easilly check the alternator? The car does nothing it doesn't even try and turn over, I get about 2 seconds of power and then after that it stops.

Any automotive shop can test it for you. Shouldn't cost much.

I have never had any luck with just a battery replacement for what it's worth. I have almost always had to replace alternator at the same time or shortly after. That is just my luck, hopefully yours is better!
