Bad TPS?

Bad TPS?
I just bought a 93 R1 (2 RX-7's!!).
Here are the symptoms. While cruising, the car will begin to buck intermittently, if I let off for a sec and then put my foot back on the throttle, or if I gas it a bit, it will stop. There's also some hesitation when coming on throttle.
This sounds like a bad TPS to me, but I want a second opinion. What do you guys think?

I had a similiar problem, and unless it is the 3k rpm hesitation, it sounds like the tps. now it might not be a bad tps, but possibly the connection. in my case, all i had to do was unplug, and plug it back in making sure it was tight. occasionally it will act up again, but all i have to do is "jiggle" the wires going into the tps, move them around a little, and it works fine again.
Good luck.
Good luck.

Andrew,
Have you solved your hesitation problem yet? If so, please post your solution for the benefit of the rest of us hesitaters! All too often, people ask for help, but never finish out a post with the solution. Hope you found your answer (still looking for mine)!

Nope, not yet. I just checked the O2 sensor, and it's fine. It read just over one volt at idle. I'm going to double check the TPS though. I got some inconsistent readings the last time I checked it, but I think that it wasn't completely warmed up. I may take it to a local shop this weekend though to have them look at it.
btw... does anybody know how to read error codes? The check engine light came on this morning, but wasn't on when I left work. I know on FCs you can rig up some LEDs.
I'll keep this thread updated.

Its easy to check codes!
There was a post up last sunday which told how to do it. You just short the TEN pin and the GND pin in the diognostic connector. I don't know all of the codes though. I will see if I can find the thread and bring it up.

Well, it looks like it's the TPS. I tested it again tonight with the car good and hot. The bottom wire on the conntector shows no voltage for approximately the first quarter of the throttle. And it's only showing ~3v at WOT when it should be in the 4v range. I don't have time to mess with adjusting it now and risk making the car undrivable, I'll try to adjust it this weekend.

Ok, I know this thread's a little old, but I'll update it anyway. I finally fixed it. It was the TPS, just had to replace it and adjust. Adjusting it is the key. When I first intalled it, I just set the voltage for WOT because the car wasn't warmed up. It ran better, but the problem was definately still there until I adjusted it properly. I still have a slight hessitation though, and the computer is giving me the code for "no change in feedback system for more than 25 seconds", I'm guessing this is the O2 sensor.
Thanks everyone for the help
