Recaro looks cool but I think that's a 'booster' seat I also have the same Evenflow seat. 5mo's and nearly 20 lbs and 25 in - big boy. Have to pack up the infant seat soon.

Goodfella - had to trade in our DINK status (double income no children). Give yourself another 10-15 yrs and working on the car by yourself is not as much fun. Need someone to share it with

Anyone try a baby seat in the j-spec rear seats? Need to figure out what to do if we have another child. Either the FD or Ram has to go - need something more practical and I can only justify so many toys to my wife How about the new GTO? Pretty plain and very fast NA. Good platform to start modding...

I'd like to see the looks from that child care center - right now I have in-home care.

Since it's raining here today and my FD is now a garage queen the pics will have to wait a day or two

Ha ha, those seats (Recaros and Simpsons) are great! We got the Britax...it looks more like it belongs in a Caddy. I should have got one of these!

I have a 3 year old that Ive been transporting in my 94' since birth. I did disconnect the air bags for apparent reasons. My other vehicle is a 71' chevy truck with a choptop, which means he rides next to me in there also. Needless to say he loves to ride with Daddy. His Moms car is not that bad either -03' mini cooper.

i've done it too, on occasion. granted, it's not the ideal situation, but i only do it when absolutely necessary (i.e. other car is in the shop). btw, mine is a 93, so no passenger airbag

what's up with those recaro seats? it looks like they used an ironing board for the back support just doesn't look too comfortable

 

Ahh but little do you know....
The Recaro's frame is made out of tubular aluminum which holds the back support. The entire thing is fully adjustable. Headrest, arm rests, leg support, belt adjuster, etc. The back support is self forming to your kid's back. Meaning his back doesn't have to shape it's self to the seat. This seat shapes itself to your kid's back.

At first I also thought it would be uncomfortable until I started reading about its construction and design. It is the ONLY babyseat to ever meet Europe's safety standards. And we know things over there are stricter in some aspects than they are here. (Hence no SUVs)

The seat will also hold a child between like 20lbs-90 or so lbs. Meaning it will grow with your child which is why it is fully adjustable. The aluminum frame also helpd prevent heat from being trapped under a child's body thus allowing his/her body to fully breathe.

The Simpson DOES look cool though

 

Can't run it that hard when it's cold but I picked him up in it today and I couldn't get his head to move. Guess he's to strong or too heavy or my FD is not as fast

FWIW, Mo and Ks law dictate that if there is no back seat in the vehicle the rear facing toddler/Infant seat must be affixed in a manner that allows no more than 1" lateral movement and no up and down movement (off of the seat surface). If the vehicle is equipped with a passenger airbag, it MUST be disarmed. There are no statements regarding purchasing a new vehicle or lack of rear seats rendering a vehicle unfit to transport an infant/toddler. I have a 14 month old and only about 6 mo's till I can put her Simpson booster in the 7. Wife won't let me transport her in it right now though.

Here is some clarification I heard today on Hi. law. The seat must be a REAR facing seat. (This is where i got confused) NO passenger side airbag, (I think there is something about IF there is a back seat, 14 and under must be back there) Kids 17 and under in the rear seats have to have the seatbelts fastened. I believe the same movement/restraint guidelines for the child seat are required here.These are the "new" laws as of yesterday that i heard.Give us a week we'll change them again!Sorry for the confusion.....rotary-tt: your boy looks stoked in that picture! NIce to see all the replys on different car seats from you fathers out there,my wife is dued in April with our first child and I refuse to give up my fd so I can show her how its done (car seat) in a fd.

 

How do you disable the passenger airbag for 94-95 FDs?

On a different subject, if you have a new sedan with side curtain airbag in the rear and you have 2 kids, how do you protect your children from the side airbag. I don't know if you can disable the side curtain bags.

 

i have the same problem in my wife's g20...the hump in the middle of the rear seat makes the seat move too much, but the g20 has side airbags

go to the dealership and ask if they can do it for free???

The RX8 has side rear bags that can't be disabled. Appearently, only 2 seaters have front airbag disable switch. You are required to carry child in rear and so far, gov't hasn't figured out that side curtain can be dangerous in rear.

 

Well, ARE the side-curtain airbags in the rear dangerous? I've never heard of any problems with them. The original front air bags are thought to be dangerous to kids because they proved it on a number of unfortunate occasions. If the side curtain airbags (a) don't open with the force of the front, and (b) aren't aimed squarely at a kid head height, then they're probably not going to cause a problem.

The whole point of my post was that you are NOT required to keep the kid in the rear. It is just a recommendation unless you have passenger air bags which you cannot disable.

Can you put the kid in the middle of the rear? This is where we put him in our other car.

I would guess that side air bags are not a problem since many new cars come with them in the back.

We were out today at the car show, Pep Boys, and also for a little ride. Personally I like to see his face when I drive. Probably a little distracting, though...

 

Does it have LATCH in the middle? Can you smash down the seat? This is what I had to do in our other car.

For your g20, I would ask the dealer or many hospitals do this as a service for free.

 

My wife was not into it at first so that's why I got a truck. Took her about 5 months before she warmed up to it. Actually I just put him there one day and showed her it would work. She knows that I won't give the 7 up although she is always hoping

Now maybe I can get rid of this POS truck and go back to 2 sports cars (I got rid of my '83 GSL when I found out she was pregnant). Maybe an RX-8 will work as a 'family' car

 

the only latch available is for a forward facing seat (at the top of the deck)...kailani is only six months old and nowhere near twenty pounds yet, although it seems like she's gettin there fast

that's not too big a deal...being that the seat i bought can convert to forward facing later.

i hate calling the local infiniti dealership...the people there are real ******

Just got a 2000 Mazda MPV and it is not any easier to get a rear-facing seat into than my 7 (although you don't have to bend over to put him in). Yeh, I had to get a 'family truckster'. Needs a big single , the Elantra would win a drag race
