Autometer temp gauge install?

I am installing the autometer temp gauge and am trying to figure out where to install the sending unit. I see there are two plugs by the coolant cap--is that where it should go? If so, it is a 3/8's hole--the adapter with the gauge is 1/2 inch. Can anyone give me some direction here?

Well, I installed mine few weeks ago. My Autometer temp gauge kit came with 2 adapters, 1/2 and 3/8. There are 2 holes -with hex bolts- by the coolant cap -3/8 holes-. One hole next to the cap and the another one in the right side -air pump side- of the same cap piece.

As the previous owner removed the air pump, I put my sender in the right side hole. I Just remove the hex bolt, rolled some teflon tape around the sender and CAREFULLY screw the sender into the hole. The aluminiun is so tricky so take care with it.

If you don´t have the adapter, just buy it. Another way to do the work is to drill a hole near the coolant level sensor -in the flat place in the upper side of the sensor- you can see it with pictures in the following place:

I don´t recomend to put the sender next to the cap.

I put the sender next to the cap and its worked fine. It was also was very easy to do; no draining coolant, drilling holes, or removing air pump...just unscrew the plug and screw in the sender w/ adapter.

Just curious, I have asked this question before but no response.
I know autometer boost guages are lets say.. are not too accurate. but how do autometer mechanical water temp gauges do/compare?

thanks for any input

I found out what my problem was--Jason sent me the mechanical sending unit rather than the electrical one. The electrical one screws right in-- he is sending me the correct one. But in response to your question, the mechanical is suppose to be more accurate, but you will have to tap yopur own hole in order to install it. That is more than I am set up to do right now!
