I dont think Steve really got boosted, I think everyone that knows him has always thought of him as one of the best. Its just that untill recently the general population didnt realize he made house calls.

Now as far as your tuning, I havent had you actually tune my car so its hard for me to comment from that aspect, but I will say I think you use a great method. I know you take datalogs, review, then make incremental changes which is great!!! I'll let some of the people that you actually tuned comment on the actual tuning and how much they benifited from it.

I will say this though..... I think what sets Steve apart from 95% of the other tuners is his broad and vast experience with MANY types of cars not just rotary but piston as well. In addition to tuning most every computer there is, he has a lot of experience with nitrous, all types of porting including bridge, ect ect ect. Its vary rare to find a rotary tuner with that kind of experience thats ready to drive 500miles to your house and hang out tuning peoples cars for what I consider realitivly little money.

Well, you tuned my car and it is wickedly fast. I have a new best trap speed of 117 running .9 bar on stock turbos. My ET was only 12.6, but I have major launch/suspension issues with a 2.3 60'. This is also with very rich ARF's (on my request) of 10.5-10.7.

He did, I just usually run .9 on the street to save the turbos and forgot to turn it up at the track. I dont need any more power until I get some bigger shoes on this thing. 16x8's just don't cut it.

Tony tuned my car with a wideband O2 sensor on the backroads near Indianapolis Raceway Park during the RotaryRevolution. The car has definitely improved in power and acceleration. The engine runs very strong and smooth. I was very pleased with Tony's tuning. I would recommend his services to my friends.

This is long, too many good things to say:

I wish I'd gotten to this post earlier so I could be near the top, I have nothing but great things to say about Tony's tuning. I am an engineer with no small amount of experience tuning Haltechs on bike engines but had no rotary experience or the datalogit+wideband required to do a proper job. My interest is in chassis setup so I just wanted reliable, consistent power so rather than invest in the tools (and learning curve) needed to do it myself I just had Tony do it at the Rotary Revolution.

I was concerned that anyone tuning a small volume of cars would tell me "oh, it sounds rich right here" or "it feels flat when you roll into it." I have much respect for experienced people and would have accepted it but instead Tony blew me away with his analytical approach to tuning, you wouldn't think experience had anything to do with it. He completely satisfied my engineering brain with loads of analytical data and no logic circles that are so common when tuners try to explain their methods. There was no need for reassuring "Trust me's" all his safety precautions were out in the open for me to see.

The car started at 9psi, 100%duty cycle with an AFR of less than 10:1 with an arbitrary, untested map from another very friendly, very helpful tuner who may or may not have been mentioned earlier in this thread (to his credit, he had no time in this car and wanted to be safe and was bending over backwards to help me out). Tony and I ended up with 11psi, 88%duty cycle with a dead stable AFR of 10.5:1. I asked him to be this conservative because reliability was well above HP on my list of needs. Even so, the gain in power was astonishing. He addressed my concerns about cold weather and pointed out why he made each change if it was not readily apparent from the data.

The only objective problems I have found so far would be cleaned up with just a few more minutes in the car. From light decel to light throttle between 1500 and 3000 rpm (Wall Mart parking lot driving) there is a fairly strong hesitation and when the car gets above 210F the water temp fuel addition seems a bit aggressive. Neither of these conditions were encountered with Tony in the car, and as I said, are very minor glitches.

Anecdote follows:

I wasn't sure about this guy as he was hooking up his wide band, I'd never met him but he seemed OK. A guy runs over to my car yelling "Tony, Tony, I need 2mph to get top qualifier this afternoon! I'm at 115 right now." Tony just said "I can give you 2mph if your engine is up for it." The guy was emphatic that it was so tony hooked up his laptop, made a few keystrokes and then got back to my car. We tuned for 2hrs and I was already very impressed. As we pulled back into IRP we heard over the PA "so and so qualified #1 with XX.XXseconds at 117mph." Wow, that was impressive. As I said, anecodal, but quite a sales pitch none the less.

The DIY widebands that use our O2 sensors are just out, I'd be glad to trade some more time for a sensor or two. I was actually wondering if you would be interested in meeting over at Gingerman instead of Detroit during an evening test and tune to gather some data with the car on track. It's difficult to make the car run like it's on track around rural IRP or D-town city traffic. (might also be helpfull/interesting to you and your customers if you haven't already done so)

Let me know if you ever plan to be near Gingerman/Chicago and maybe we can work something out. I might be able to make it back to IRP for a track day there if not.

BTW, just thought I'd clarify the anecdote after re-reading it. I believe Tony had already tuned this guy's car previously, he wasn't making arbitrary changes to an unknown map just to get mph.

Well, I'd like to thank you Tony for your tuning and add another testimonial. I started out with 259 hp with a supposedly tuned PFC, intake ,dp, high flow cat, cb and smic. With his tuning and an HKS Twin Power (not sure how much horse the Twin adds). I'm now running 311 rwhp. In addition to coming to the RX7 Revolution in Indy under difficult conditions, Tony has continued to help me despite my unsolicited pestering. Tony I wish you and your family the best.
