anyone installed Pettit's TKT kit?

got my FD last summer, and over the winter I am going to start upgrading. Pettit's TKT kit seems like a logical way to start, though I have heard that Pettit can be hard to work with. Any suggestions on first upgrades would be much appreciated.

Pettit is only hard to deal with because Cam, the owner, is a perfectionist. He wants EVERYTHING done right. I suppose that isn't a bad thing, is it? :p

If you are thinking of taking your FD to him, make sure you call them up in advance. They are usually pretty booked up, at least when I use to live in FL. I haven't seen his new shop, so he might have more people working for him now, but either way, if you DO go to him, make sure you make plans ahead of time.

there is little chance that I will be heading to FL to visit Pettit myself. I live in Minneapolis, so FL is quite a haul... I think that I should be able to do all of this work myself, with the help of some friends, and I can't imagine that intake & exhaust upgrades can be all that hard, but I have never done them on an FD. anyone know of a good & relable shop in the midwest that can do this stuff if I run into problems?

Flybye, have you worked with Pettit? and was it a good experience?

Ya I've been there a bunch of times, but never for labor work. I like doing things myself I was with him at an autox once, I know a few guys that also meet him at several track events, and I know a guy that worked for him (Dimcorner), and THAT guy knows a tech that worked for Cam. The tech ended up opening his own shop in Miami.

Talking to him is always fun, but I doubt you will get him directly on the phone. He always has a comment and suggestion about something. Honestly, I have to say he is one of the NICER and more helpfull guys to talk to in the RX-7 community. His only downfall? His prices are a bit high , but you cant blame him. His customer base only really comes from one state. All the other tuner shops are in bigger states and have more states surrounding them, but him and his staff are very knowledgable, and they won't steer you in the wrong direction.

Checkout the RX7 Store. I have the same package as Pettit, but a little cheaper.

Jason,
how is www.rx7store.com to work with. I am new to the FD upgrade game, but from their website they look like a parts retailer, and I am looking for a place where I can get parts, as well as technical help, espically when ordering groups of parts. they seem to have a ton of stuff, but do they have the knowledge to back it up?

kinda off subject but fits last post.....

Today I called the guys at RX-7 store and no one was there so i thought i might take my chances with the answering machine, not expecting anything back, but to my surprise they returned my phone call. The guy happened to live close to me so he ordered it for my and i can pick it up at his house and just was and over all good guy. If all the other guys at RX-7 store are like that i assume that they are all guys who love thier RX-7 and know them from top to bottom (bumper to bumper), so if i ever needed to get something installd or fixed i would not feel worried about taking it to and taking advice fomr those guys.

For reference, "Jason" is the RX-7 Store. He's well-known for having excellent service, being knowledgeable on the 3rd gen, and having the best prices around.

Very please with the RX7 store.

Purchased ACT clutch, Fluidyne Radiator and gauges from Jason. Great service, and the best price that I could find.

With pettit I told them that I would need the ecu upgrade back asap and they told me it would be a day turn around...well nearly a month later I get my ecu back, reprogrammed but I was still pissed off. Luckily I have other cars to drive but honestly...WTF??

Jason's a great guy and has always gotten me what I needed.

Hey i noticed some of your questions and if you need to call someone involved w/ Pettit you can call Chad Hall. He has worked them awhile and is really cool. He loves these cars alot and is a wizard with them. He does all my work and answers all my questions. **** i call him like once a week and he likes to explain everything going on with my set-up....Just tell him you got his number from Garret off the forum and your rigged up 9544615453 (Ft. lauderdale,FL). Hope this helps...Garret

Mike aka RED-RX7 on the forum is answering the phones now. It gives me more time to do ordering, shipping and web development. Mike knows his stuff and can answer any technical questions. I have used most of the parts we sell and can also answer any tech questions on installs etc..
The past few months have been really busy and got to the point where I couldnt do everything on my own. Hopefully this will smooth it out. Thanks to those that support the forum by buying at the store.

cool, thanks for the info all - much appreciated. regardless of who I go with, what is a good first step? is going more then exhaust/intake/pulleys a good idea? or does it make sence to do cpu, straight pipe etc all at once. my roommate has started modding his WRX, and my buddies are working on their C5 and 540i sport this winter, so I need to keep up

because I live in the great white north, my car is in storage all winter, so time is really not an issue - what do you all think is enough vs too much for first upgrade?

also, for those of you that have dropped your car, does it improve your car, not talking about looks but street (autocrossing mainly) performance. again, thank you all for answering my many questions.... more to come
