Question Anyone ever run Bose acoustic wave tube as a sub w/ new sytem?

Wanted to know if anyone hase installed a new sound system in their FD but kept the bose acoustic wave tub and ran it as their sub/low end speaker? How has it worked out? I'm thinking of runnig a good deck, replacement 4" speakers, a good 4 ch amp, and the bose tube thing. Ya think with a good amp it could push some bass?

u mean as in, run the speakers at home? How are you gonna mount those on your walls or a stand? And personally speaking Bose speakers aren't that great, way too overpriced for the sound, i'd sell those and get B&W's anyday... for home use of course, I'm not big of an audiophile when it comes to car speakers

yes you can. Do a search under my name witha keyword bose and limit it to the audio section.

I hope that you are not going to hook up this amp to the bose. Because the bose already has one. One more think if you are looking for BASS rather than than let's say orchestra quality ditch the bose. The bose was designed for quality not quantity, it can be overdriven very easily and not sound very good. That's why many people on here say bose blows. They just lack the understanding that the wave tube is not a boom box.

There is no melody coming out of the wave tube, only bass. If you can't hear it thump then there is something wrong with it. Probably the amp.

This question has come up before. There are instructions out there on how to hook up a new head unit to the speakers and maintain good quality sound.

Just a thought, I sent all my speakers (with their respective amplifiers) down to Factory Car Stereo Repair, Inc. in Florida. One of the bass amps wasn't working at all, one not working correctly, passenger door amp squealing (that's why I finally did all this), tweater amp not working at all, etc. Bottom line, my factory system now sounds absolutely fantastic. I don't know if it ever sounded this good before. I think someone knew what they were doing when designing this system for this car. . .oh well, just my $.02. . .

I'd say keep the BOSE system if you are after quality. For the money and weight it really is quite nice. You will not have booming bass but you'll get plenty of fill and nice lows -- as mentioned, the key is quality. I hated the BOSE system and couldnt wait to get rid of it originally, then I removed the center speaker/amp and invested in a nice headunit with full EQ control... you really need a full spectrum EQ to take advantage of the BOSE system.

If you want earthshattering bass than remove all the BOSE stuff, get a Kicker 12" and some really nice components so it doesnt destroy SQ.

Good luck.

well here's where im going with this: I checked out my stock BOSE system and the tweeters + left speaker are blown out (have holes in them). Also the Tape deck and the CD deck dont work at all. All i have is radio. So i was thinking of buying a quality deck and new 4" speakers to easily swap right in. I'm not going for earth shaking bass but i was wondering if the bose tube could be pushed a bit more. So long story short, i want a new system (deck, amp and speakers) but using the BOSE tube as the sub/low end speaker. Frankly, the BOSE tube is kinda cool if u ask me. I like how its an unique design unlike all those car rattling subs.

I ran an aftermarket head unit with the stock system for a while. You need an adapter to run an aftermarket headunit because Bose runs amps at 2 ohms.

I have one for sale cheap if you need it.

My buddy Rob who owns a shop in WA and works on my car has a 94 FD with the Bose Acoustic Wave sub and replaced EVERYTHING else and it sounds VERY clean. It does well if you're just looking for good quality sound. But lilke he said above you DO need an adapter to make it work properly.

Wave guide speakers with aftermarket head unir

I know this is an old thread, but I never saw that anyone specifically did this. I wanted to run the wave guide, but didn’t want to rebuild the Bose amps. Instead, I pulled out the amps and ran 2 ohm resistors in line with the speakers so I could drive them with the head unit. Of course, you have to reverse the polarity on one of the speakers. Tried it out last night, and it sounds good (not great). Just wanted to add this “fix” to the list of salvage configurations.

I did this but it's been a while, I'll check and take pics later.

I used 2 Kicker (5 or 6") subs in face to face configuration same as the ones removed from the bose wave, wired opposite so they move together, tapped the lines for low-line output and remote amp, added a (I think 300 W) mono amp with low pass and done. Adjusted the head unit for lowest bass and sounds amazing.
