Anyone ever dealt with Mazsport? Reputable place to buy JDM 13b's/93+ front clips?
Mazsport is only a few minutes from my house, they seem like a big shop. Just wondering about their reputation....that would probably be the shop I'd take my car to.
I'm probably buying a '93 fd this week that needs a new tranny (because auto is a no no), engine has problems and over 100k miles on it (has never been rebuilt), but it's damn cheap. I have not seen the car yet, but aparently the rest is all in good/fair condition.
I would LIKE to be able to find a motor in *pristine* condition and I'm assuming the front clip would help the manual swap go more smoothly? I'm somewhat mechanically inclined but I have no experience working on cars and really wouldn't have anybody that could help me do it so I'd probably be taking the car to a shop rather then working off some advice and a service manual. I'd much rather do the work myself, but I'm not sure that's a practical idea. I don't even have any of the tools I'd need.
The car I'm lookin at it is $5k, and about the cheapest fd in this area next to that is almost $13k, which I don't have. All I've done is search autotrader but finding something with engine problems like that car looks like a good way to go. It's just too damn bad that it's an auto.
So anyway, I'm trying to price **** out. Would like to see some good sources to get swaps/clips.

Scott is a very good mechanic. He recently did my car. The work is top notch, the knowledge is there. He'd be ideal, as he is local to you, and can do what your looking at doing no problem. Give him a call and talk to him.
My only complaint about mazsport is the amount of time they had my car.
Edit: I hate to say this, but if $13k is too much, I'd look at other cars. Especially if you are having mechanics do all the work for you..
Feel free to IM me on aim (ijneb)

$13k is too much for the time being. Over time I'll spend a whole lot more then that. I have plans for the car and it about works out the same.

Well, if the place is local and you can go look at what you're getting before you buy, that's a big help. It's always pot luck when buying used motors, and many shops won't warranty motors or front clips.

I also can vouch for Scott. He is very thorough and does nothing "half-***." He has built the motor in both my FC and my FD. He is willing to talk to his customers and listen to their ideas regardless of how stupid or crazy they may seem (ask me how I know LOL). Mazsport will give you a detailed invoice showing how every hour or dollar was spent on labor or parts, respectively. My advice is to call Scott and set an appointment to go meet him in person. Talk about what your goals for the car are. Be open with him as to what your budget is at this stage of the project. He will be "straight up" with you and let you know if what you are trying to do is feasible for the amount of money you are looking to spend. Also, as Ben alluded to, Scott is a very busy guy. Don't expect him to drop everything (including my supercharged FC project
) to start working on your car tomorrow. Discuss with him when you think he'll have time to begin your project and when he reasonably believes he can complete it after that. Feel free to IM me "ThePianoProdigy" if you have any more questions.
