You may not have to remove the tint in CA. It used to be a fix it ticket, where you fix it, and they waive the fine. I once got a ticket (many years ago) for side window tint in my FB, I just paid the fine, and kept the tint.

Good God....those side mounted plates are HIDEOUS! I feel for you guys. Kansas used to have the front plate laws for PERSONALIZED PLATES only, but repealed that several years ago....thank God.

And I have to agree with Wan about the woeful 'expression' on the FD's face in muibubbles picture....lol! Poor thing!

Excuse my ignorance but I thought FDs in Europe came with a different rear bumper to accommodate the long license plate that were (us Americans) are used to seeing. Is your car a Japanese import? Whats the difference between your license plate and the long thin type?

yes, mine is rhd. The difference is only the size. My size is for Trucks and Bikes (and cars if standard size doesn't fit)

Yeah, officer safety my ***. It's all for money. Sure, a couple officers have died, but the window tint didn't kill them, a criminal did. You can't "nerf" everything in this counry and still call it a "free" country. How fucked up is it that people pay for their cars, then their taxes pay for the highways, and their taxes pay for the officers and all their equipment, and then the officers turn around and pull your *** over and give you a ticket for driving on public roads your taxes helped pay for, in a car you paid for that has it's windows darker than what some tight *** decided should be allowed. Its all bullshit.


Go to IWFA home page and they have all the tint laws there. Cali doesn't allow anything darker than 70% on the front two rollups....and most glass from the factory, even though it may appear virtually clear, still has enough "tint" to it that it is already this dark, so really no, you can't put anything up front other than a clear uv shield. Whats weird is you can have it as dark as you want on the rest of the vehicle legally. Yeah, who is going to have the gun....the driver or his buddy in the back seat.

only the windows to the side and in front of the driver can't be tinted in cali. yep, it's stupid but that's how it is. if you want to get by without a ticket, just be sure to have your windows rolled down before the cop gets to your car, they really are only concerned about their own safety. if they want to give you a ticket for it even if he can clearly see you when approaching the car then you are just dealing with a pure ******** who just used the tint as an excuse to pull you over in the first place and needed something to feed you for his stereotyping.

I don't know if its so, but I could swear I read that the guys in Japan use a bracket on the front plate that allows it to fold back while the car is moving, then return to normal position when the car slows. Not really flapping in the wind, the hinges have some resistance to them. Maybe you guys could look into them. No worries here, NC doesn't require them.


I only have had 1 tint ticket, and that was bc the cop accused me of careless and reckless. I swerved to miss a car pulling out of Wendy's, and had to tailgate a buddy of mine in order to not get blasted by that car. Of course he never saw the other car, just me driving crazy. I paid the ticket, it was $40. I have 15 all the way around on my WRX. With the black interior it looks a lot darker at night. It's illegal I know, but the only problem I have with it now a days is getting an inspection. It's been on there for 6 years now.

you can just pay the fine and keep it how it is. I have all the windows tinted on my G35 (even the front windsheild) and I got a ticket for it but just paid the fine and did nothing. Also have got a couple tickets for no front plate, I dont have them on my G or FD. It should be only $10 proof of correction fee and you can just take it off again after you get it signed, thats what Ive always done.
