any tips on how do shave the extra pounds off my car?
sr motorsports is saying that there race car weighs 2300lbs roughly i was curious how some of you are losing the extra pounds not that our cars are especially heavy anyway but losing the extra pounds always helps. gas mileage, acceleration, braking etc. i dont plan on getting my car that light but every little bit helps.any tips people generally overlooked i have my car gutted inside and out at the moment so in its current state it should be easier.

Strip all of the sound deadening. Remove A/C and power steering. Remove at least the rear speakers or more if you haven't already. Remove the mats and carpet. Do the AST deletion. Remove your stock seats and replace them with a lighter alternative, which isn't hard, because they're pretty heavy. Remove the horns. Remove the stock steering wheel and switch it with an aftermarket version, you can fore go the horn button since you won't have horns. Remove the spare and all of the rear tools, obviously. Pick up the light weight version of the FD wheels if you don't already have'em, or run smaller rims and tires. Run lighter models of tire. Remove your exhaust completely if it's a race car, or at least swap the parts out with titanium equivalents.

Remove tow hooks, Rear bins, and dont forget sleek headlights. You could get crazy and delete the Intercooler and run meth injection. All depends on how far you want to go with the idea and how uncomfortable/annoyed you are willing to be just to shave .2-.3 tenths off your 1/4 mile times in your street driven fd

thanks for the posts guys I'm kind of in a bad place because this is still my weeekend warrior and also the car i use to go for a joy ride with the ladies. so ripping the interior out is not gonna happen other than the sound deadening material and the ac because its gone already and the rearspeaker is removed along with the seats im going to a non reclineable but something still comfortable maybe some leather just for looks im going to keep the moon roof but the rear deck lid and the wiper are removed because of my veilside fortune kit(in progress) and hopefully switching theheadlights to just a solid carbon peice instead of the old motorized ones, fiberglass fenders, hood, front end and deck lid will help. I will have to check on the cf doors but that does seem like a good area even if they are just fiberglass wrapped in carbon it is still lighter than the stock steel ones. I'm also from oklahoma and we dont have vehicle inspections here so good ridance to the emissions system. again thanks for the posts they were helpfull and gave me a few ideas. if anyone else gets any ideas let me know. thnx

The FD is a light car already. 2300lb CAN be driven on the street but it is not really a *street* car.
I stripped a FD down to 2400-2450lbs (depends on fuel level), no airbag system, AC, light seats, stripped sound deadening, bumper supports, stereo and speakers, mini battery, stripped emissions, etc, etc.
Lightening the car adds performance at the same time you lose streetability. More performance requires bigger tires, radiator, extra oil cooler, brakes and cage, which add weight.

Simple truth is you aren't going to make much of a dent in weight unless you gut the car. Since you aren't building a dedicated track car, I would suggest you forget about the "weight" part and just enjoy the car. You'll be much happier in the long run.

^thats not very smart for a street driven car. Hope you don't get into an accident or your FD will be a total loss.
Weight reduction is for race cars. Don't worry about it for a street FD. The car is very light as it is.

I have to remove the front support to fit my front end on the car. as far as the weight i think the fortune kit may help acatually cosidering the stock fenders are steel and these are probably 2 or 3 lbs at most. the front end ways about 4 or 5 pounds now too. the rear deck lid was made of steel, now its fiberglass and uses lexan for glass and i elminate the rear wiper and motor so i would say that it probably will lose some weight. the emission system charcoal will be removed also im hoping this will be somewhat helpfull. as far as wheels im using hre's or iforged wheels. not sure which yet. I thought that with those wheels and the 20b i would be kinda heavy so I have been pulling some stuff out and using carbon fiber for drive shaft and headlights and fiberglass over most of the body. i think that this wont really lighten my car but it might help to make the 20b and new wheels not quite as big of a deal when it comes to overall weight. thanks for the tips guys the have been very helpful.
