Any suggestions before starting 33k mazda reman that has been sitting 12-16 months?
My FD has (had) interior wiring issues and the Mazda 33k reman motor hasn't run for 12-18 months according to previous owner. Battery has been disconnected and car was dry in a carport under a carcover the entire time but engine was never turned over. Car stored in the north west with damp + freezing weather but car remained dry.
Can any engine rebuilders recommend procedures prior to a restart attempt?
I have drained the fuel tank and will refill with fresh premium.
I thought cranking it over slowly with a wrench or with starter + coils disconnected several days beforehand might be a good idea. Should I spray lubricant into spark plug holes or is this only recommended or useful prior to storage ?
Should I do some kind of basic non-Mazda compression check beforehand to be sure it's safe to start? It supposedly ran fine prior to wiring issues.
I have searched, but suggestions seem to vary with circumstances so thought I would post.
Thank you for your suggestions...

Make sure all fluids are fresh and topped off, and pull the EGI fuse under the hood to disable spark. IIRC it's a pink 30 amp fuse located in the main fuse box by the battery, look on the cover schematic. You can then crank the car for 10 seconds or so at a time to get oil pressure in the system.

Just like rich said, priming the oil system should do it.
Change the oil b4 you do it though, sitting that long the oils broken down. No need to do a compression check on it right now. Just get it fired up, let it idle till fully warm before giving it any revs. Should be fine.

get 3 people.... sit in the car.... get 2 people to push to car up to 15mph.... or roll it down the hill
keep the clutch in the whole time...... when it gets around 10-15mph... put it in 2nd gear and let go of the clutch..... oowalla.... it starts....... make sure u press the clutch back in when it starts and rev a little (up to 2k)

Thanks for your suggestions, everyone.
Anything else I should watch for?
I have personally never seen the car run.
due to damaged harnesses leading to ECU
and want to err on the side of safety here.

LOL, come on rich once you hear it, its to late lol
