I read a couple of posts talking about problems with the air conditioner after installing an Apexi PFC....any truth to that???
I'm about to put in an apexi PFC and am wondering about this potential problem..........

I believe you have to teach the PFC your AC settings....immediately after installing my PFC, when i turned the AC on and off, the car's idle would hunt around and hop from 1k-1.5k for about 10 seconds and then go back down to 800. Call it dumb luck, but I did my own lil diagnostic procedure which seemed to work.
turn the AC on and off and watch the idle hunt and stabilize, repeated 5 or 6 times
leave the AC on and idle for a minute
turn it off, let it idle for a minute
turn off the car with AC off and restart it, let it idle for a few minutes
turn off the car with AC on and restart it (while on), let idle for another few minutes
turn off the car and test if the idle still hunts when the AC is turned on and off (mine stopped hunting by this step) and then go for a long spirited drive with your new PFC
I'm sure theres a shorter procedure to remedy the AC gremlin, but this seemed to work for me. This was with the newer model PFC on a 93 R1. From what everyone is saying, the AC problem tends to only affect 93 and especially R1 models. I've had the PFC for about a month with no problems. Good luck

Anyone figured this out yet ?
I have a power fc (for about a year now).
Last year my AC compressor would act properly when the fan was on 1 or 2. But on 3 or 4 it would cut in and out.... This year the first half holds true but i'm outta luck on 3 and 4.
Any answers out there ?
I'm tempted to wire up a switch directly to the relay, but would I hurt anything else that is normally upstream of the relay.. I don't want to send voltage back to somehwere it doesn't belong...
Help ??
Thanks in advance !!

I lost #3 fan setting in A/C - meaning it will still blow air, but the A/C will not engage. Other then that, strangely enough the A/C feels stronger then ever in the remaining 3 speed settings.
It has to be psychological, but I use to leave it in #4 all the time but could only do no more then #2 on the way home from Austin after install w/o turning into a popsicle. Anyways, no complaints from me. 93 Touring converted from auto to manual - with speed goodies.

i found chuck's answer....
it's posted about a year back... if anyone is looking for it.....
The concept worked with the 1L wire, but I had to run it straight to ground, the Violet wire on 1E didn't appear to have any effect on my 94 touring model...
I threw a toggle switch inline so I could keep the engine fan on with no compressor 'feature' if I wanted to...
I just finished up and all looks to be working well...
Thanks Chuck for the post a year ago...

My ac just kicket the bucket.....
I just put the latest version of the power fc & commander on my car. My ac was working for a while until I went away for two weeks. I came back and I was baking in my car. I'm gonna have to start all over. Thinking about putting the stock ecu back on. Test out the ac to make sure is just the power fc. then I'm gonna have to make it learn all over again...

After the PFC mine only works on 4. The other settings blow air, but not cold at all. So I have to put it on 4 for a while, shut if off, then back on.. it's a pain

you'll find your answere(fix) there. and in case you're to lazy it basically says you need to buy a new a/c switch.

I have an A/C issue. Not sure if it is Power FC related though.
When I accelerate over 4000 RPMs I hear a roaring noise. If I turn the A/C off the roaring stops and I get a slight boost in power. Slight. I never noticed this before, but I recently had the pulley kit put on before it started happening.
Aside from the roaring the A/C is working fine blowing cold air. I had the A/C compressor replaced about a year ago because it had a leak.
I also blew the A/C / Stereo / Cigarette Lighter fuse and had to replace it. But this was a few months after the A/C issue started.
Any suggestions or ideas?
Thanks,
Joseph

No truth to what we have said about A/C issues at all. We just enjoy lieing and having the challenge of making sure our stories all match up.
The pfc problem is that the pfc doesnt do a good job of controlling the A/C. If you watch the sensor check screen on the commander you will see that it recognizes when you have the A/C switched on. The problem is that the output signal from the pfc is flakey, I dont know if it is weak or if it just isnt there but there is no question the signal is not what it should be. Mine works most of the time on fan speed 2.5 and about 50% of the time on speed 4. That seems to be typical of most pfc owners. There is a write up somewhere describing how to bypass the pfc. I did this and A/C works on all fan settings but the idle bogs and sometimes stalls. For this summer I decided I would switch back to using 2.5 and 4, see if I like that better than having a screwed up idle. In summary, use the search button.

I would ask:
how do you tell the AC is working or not?
I mean: did you only consider the light on the switch or the hearing of the compressor getting on?
What I don't understand is: when you say it does not work, the light on the AC switch gets on but the compressor wont start or both are off?
I read some posts on the PFC forum that states this is due to a bad connection on the blower main connector.

By not working, it means the light on the button comes on but the compressor does not cycle.
