and on it goes.......

I just need to remind you guys with the questions regarding disconnection of the trailing spark and "losing half of your spark"..............remember that 3 sparks occur during each combustion > 2 are from the leading plugs, and only 1 is from the trailing. The trailing spark occurs between these 2 sparks. Also, the actual hole for the trailing plugs is only like a 1/4 of the size of the leading plug holes.

Originally, (and I mean before the first rotary car came out I believe), the rotary engine only had 1 plug per rotor, not 2. A second one was added to aid mostly in better gas mileage and hopefully cleaner emissions. Remember, there weren't turbocharged rotaries back then. Mazda stuck with this design "principle" into the 80's and on so that they could keep the rotary in the market. Mazda would obviously keep this design because it helped to keep the rotary here today. Emissions laws are tough, and I particularly hate 'em myself.
This obviously goes much more in-depth than I have said here, but I particularly don't feel like going on about this. There is definitely a good amount of info written about this (I've got a few books about rotary history)......I just don't feel like the one to get into it.

Good, because I'm not entirely sure we'd be able to decipher what you were trying to say if you did.

Jason,

Since it's taken more than two months for the dyno, how about a simple 40-70 run, and trying some 87 octane to test the detonation resistance ?

I did notice that LeMans 4 rotor had 3 plugs per cylinder. I realize that is at least partially due to the higher compression ratio.

It was primarily a change to promote fuel economy; burn more of the gas going into the engine to produce more power and you don't have to use the gas pedal as much...

And the tester is selling his car with a new engine... doesn't that tell you everything you need to know?

lol

well the anti det is a failure...we knew that long ago....

the asking price for the car was eye opening. I expected another four grand on it at least. someone will get a nice deal if it has a new motor in it...the mod list is sweet.

My motor chipped a seal at the track with Race gas in it. I was not running Anti-Det device at the time. I had been running the same tune for 6 months prior with no problems, so I think I had a fuel delivery issue that caused the problem.
Like I said before, the car ran well with the plugs in it but I never had a chance to tune with them.

I am toying with going to visit Dave at KDR and get the anti-det installed for the hell of it. Prolly won't be until after wintertime. Along with h2o injection, that should keep me from blowing up for awhile

Back from the dead! I know you guys love this thread

I was turning my engine on the stand to check the port timing specifics and I noticed something.

Is this "anti-det" device actually an anti-pre-ignition device targeted to solve one specific failure mode?

If the trailing plug is not pysically able to be "cold" enough to keep the electrode area from being a possible ignition point there are MANY degrees of intake and compression stroke that expose the trailing plug hole to the air fuel mix.

If the boost is high it IS compression even during the intake phase that could force the mixture into the trailing plug orfice.

Is it because the trailing plug is so shouded it is not being effectively cooled by the air charge during the intake phase as it would be in a piston engine application and this is why this failure mode is unique to the rotary?

I have heard rotaries detonate and haven't seen one stop running afterwards; I have seen rotaries crack rear housings, break apex and corner seals and never heard detonation.

Pre-ignition?

Hmm, no responeses.

Is it-

Duh, we already all know that is how the Trailplug works.

or-

Duh, we already know that is not how the Trailplug works.

or-

Duh, we already are so damn sick of this thread we won't look at any new posts on it.
