That is weird and scary . I've noticed that you live in Arizona, How hot was it outside? Maybe your intake temps went through the roof.

That sucks! When I was doing research on where to get my next rebuilt motor, I kept hearing negative feedback about Atkin's motors... I'm guessing that they don't have a warranty to help you out.

If the seal is blown, not just low compression, you can tell just by sound. Take out the rear plug on each rotor (not at the same time) and crank it over. Pull fuses first!! 1 rotor will prob sound great 3 equal puff, puff, puff the other will go puff, puff, blank, puff, puff, blank. There is no way not to hear it easily. Save the expensive compression test. Those are for when you have low compression so you can't tell by this method.

Luckly I'm right by one that sells a really good quality 93.5 which most people don't even know about because everyone is so used to using 91. To us here, 91 is high octane unless you want to make a run to get some race fuel, 100 octane or higher.

i think all you guys are on the wrong track about octane and whatever, many engines running more boost on 91 - 92 octane are not blowing up, my track car for example....i just ran at the track all day at 7-8K rpm at 11-12 lbs boost on 91 octane.... nothing blew up :-)
.. i am speculating but I believe it was caused by somthing else, like an error in the rebuild or a momentary lean condition caused by somthing else failing, et.
