Exactly, I seriously doubt anyone has been pulled over for that in the past 5 years...unprovoked anyway.

FYI, the parking lights in my '94 cause the fans to come on at a lower temp.

Sorry for the quick defense, but negativity is usually the response I get when I try to help. I jumped the gun.

I am not too sure on the reasoning behind the code. I imagine it has something to do with if your parking lights are on, other motorists can assume that you are not in motion. If you are driving around like that, it can mislead them. It might seem like common sense to the most of us, but remember most vehicle codes out there are to protect the ignorant and retarded.(hence seatbelt, headlight usage violations)

I am aware that a lot of new cars have daytime running lights now. But on these cars, the tailights and side markers are not lit like they would be if the parking lights are on.

Obviously this law isn't really inforced that much in present times. Remember though, that an Officer can use the violation to make a stop on the car/you. At that point he/she will have a better view to check out the rest of you car for other violations. That was the point of me bringing up this subject. Just trying to inform you guys so we quit getting the "****** A-hOLe cOP puLlED mE oVEr" threads. There are 3 every week in the West Section.

Remember the life of a cop is not very exciting, even though T.V. and movies say otherwise. During slow times, Officers will look around for people with no front plates or other small violations so they can make a stop and possibly discover something bigger.(warrants, drugs, DUI).

There is ONE easy way to avoid stops like this. Have you car up to vehicle code so the Officer can't come up with a reason to pull you over. No 5'' HKS exhausts, no front plates, no tint on front windows...etc. It only makes sense to me, too bad 99% of car owners on this site can't fathom the notion of why they are getting hassled all the time by police.

Oh come on, cops can be ******** just like anyone else. Some would say more often just because of the nature of the job. You almost make it sound as if we never get pulled over for doing nothing wrong, but we certainly do. It's called profiling and it happens everyday.

I have been pulled over several times since I've owned this car, all for simply ridiculous reasons. By the way the cops typically acted once they had me pulled over, they knew they had no legitimate reason to pull me over, which is why I was not ticketed or even given an "official warning" for any behavior. Just the boiler plate lecture about driving safe and blah blah. BTW, out of those four or five times of being pulled over, never got a ticket for missing front plate OR running the parking lights.

Meanwhile, every single day I see SUVs weaving in traffic at 85+ on the highway, people READING A NEWSPAPER on the highway, people with expired tags, people with deal tail lamps/lights, etc, etc. It gets frustrating some times, that's all.

EDIT: To soften my post, I do agree with you about some of the members here bitching about getting pulled over -- usually you can make out that there was indeed, some reason.

But people should be free to do all of those things without being subject to harassment. It's called freedom.

Maybe you should move up to Santa Cruz so you can hang out with people of your kind. Give me a break Max. So where would YOU draw the line where laws would come into play and don't hinder your "freedom"? You are always the first one to chime in when I am giving my side of law enforcment issues around here about how you are being oppressed by the man. If you are so distraught over these issues, do something about them. If having loud 5'' exhausts and installing a front plate is so necessary, then convince the majority of the population of California to get behind you. On your way there, push the declining quality of schools and other social problems aside for your cause.

I have a quick question for you Max... do you wear birkenstocks?

A quick question for you...do you wear an SS or Swaztika badge on your shoulder?

Do you blindly obey every law of the land? Do you know that oral sex is illegal in several states? Should people be harassed and prosecuted for having oral sex in those states? Would you stop having oral sex in those states? People blindly following laws without thinking are how people like Hitler do so much damage.

And we're only talking about small modifications and things on motor vehicles that don't present a threat or disturbance to anyone else. Front plate laws, for example, are a pure revenue scheme. How exactly does not having a front plate hurt anyone?

Going back to earlier, who the hell would think a moving car with parking lights on is standing still? It's a pointless law with no victims and any cop using it for an excuse to pull you over is an *******. I've NEVER seen anyone turn on parking lights to park their vehicle, which is what you are saying they are supposed to be used for. Hell, you're lucky to get a turn signal.

Exactly what I was referring to earlier. I will say it again...

I AM JUST TRYING TO HELP YOU GUYS AVOID GETTING HARASSED BY THE POLICE, NOT ARGUE ABOUT LAWS AND THE MAN KEEPING YOU DOWN.

If you don't want my help, I am done. Try and find an officer on the streets that will gladly explain to you all of this stuff that I have on this forum. I bet there are plenty of them. Have a nice day oldtimers.

Waddup peoples. I'm new to this forum so please feel free to criticize my input.

I removed my thermostat altogether and wired in a cockpit fan switch. I have an APEXi water temp gauge so I watch the water temps and switch on the fans 5 minutes before I shutdown the car. I shut it down at 60-65 degrees celsius and warm to atleast 50 before driving. Seems to work fine except warmup time is longer by a few minutes. Just a thought.

I have yet to be pulled over. But I do drive responsibly. All the mustangs in my town attract the cops.

Don't completely remove the t-stat! It will actually hurt your temps because coolant will flow through the radiator too quickly for it to be cooled down properly. Put your t-stat back in. The car will actually cool better.

Don't remove the thermostat like rynberg stated...

even when full out racing, mazdamotorsport recommend only "gutting" the thermostat to allow some restriction...

Well, a girl friend of mine in a stock Toyota Matrix was pulled over by a cop for having 'expired tabs' The cop was heading in the opposite direction and pulled a U-turn to follow her and finally pull her over (how he saw that heading in the opposite direction, ) .
The tabs are obvioulsy *not* expired, but he proceeded to flash his lights on her as if she was a criminal, question her rudely and demanded for driver's license, proof of insurance, and registration. My friend has zero speeding tickets is 25 years old and was merely on her way home after work. The cop later indicated it was a 'computer error' and let her go without any appology or reasoning.

As for the topic of this thread , I usually drive around with parking lights on in a 93.

Laters!

That would explain why parking lights never did anything for me with my 94.

2nd gen t/s is the way to go.
