Am I missing something or is there pretty much no point in installing a miata thermos
thermoswitch? I know it will make the fans come on earlier but can't you just drive with the parking lights on. It's free and having parking lights on is no biggie. Am i missing something here?

Actually I discovered that the '89-91 RX-7 thermoswitch has the same temp as the stock thermoswitch, but you can plug the electrical connector right in - no need to hack anything up.
It's just a good idea - it's totally foolproof, if you forget to switch your parking lights on, no biggie - it will kick in at 95 degrees, no matter what.
To me, running the engine nice and cool is a top priority. Something relatively inexpensive and easier to install that helps meet that goal is a good idea.

Ah! Thanks, Adam - a little typo there
.
The Miata thermoswitch has been used for ages, but the FC thermoswitch is far superior. Screws right in, plugs up with no modification to the connector, switches at 95 deg. C, and is actually *CHEAPER* than the Miata thermoswitch.
BTW, I know Ray at Malloy stocks them now - they're around $50ish if memory serves. I told him about it after I confirmed that it worked so he started stocking them.

so when i am cruising my 93 as long as i turn on my parking lights my fans will come on sooner?
also this part the thermoswitch off of a fc, i can get one from Ray for about 50 bucks and put it on my car and it will make the fans turn on even sooner?
where exactly does it go?

FD thermoswitch turns the fans on at 115deg C (correct me if i'm wrong). that's very high IMO, and will surely affect the life of the engine. The FC thermoswitch turns the fans on at 95deg C.
the thermoswitch live in the back of the thermostat housing

i read in another thread that pulling the relay to your A/C unit will activate the fans when you hit the A/C switch. i did it (since im not in need of airconditioning this time of year) and it works like a charm. full manual control... and if i forget for some reason i drive around with my parking lights on all the time.
its easier than wiring in an independant fan switch and it buys time until i can get my hands on an FC thermoswitch (which i just found out about thanks to DaleClark).

I ordered 6 of them because of my cars and the local guys but they are on backorder. Ray is getting 12 total and half are mine. should be in within a week or two. If you want one in the near future you need to call Ray tomorrow before the rest are gone.

This is the California Vehicle Code. Could be different I guess from state to state.
24800. No vehicle shall be driven at any time with the parking
lamps lighted except when the lamps are being used as turn signal
lamps or when the headlamps are also lighted.
24801. Parking lamps are those lamps permitted by Section 25106, or
any lamps mounted on the front of a vehicle, designed to be
displayed primarily when the vehicle is parked.
24802. No lights need be displayed upon a vehicle which is:
(a) Parked off the roadway and not in a hazardous position on the
highway; or
(b) Parked with a wheel within 18 inches of a curb; or
(c) Parked within a business or residence district with a wheel
within 18 inches of a curb or edge of the roadway.

They are supposed to be used when parking in a unsafe position or a location where cars are usually not parked.

It's a stupid law, one of countless hundreds in this state/country.

Why shoot the messenger over this? I am just giving some pointers on how to avoid cops and I am the bad guy.
I guess I will keep my mouth shut and enjoy writing my "quota" of tickets.

If no one else is going to attack Fu, I will ................. but not right now ![Big Grin](https://www.rx7club.com/images/smilies/biggrin.gif)
I think pretty much every Chevrolet made, in the last few years, has full time driving lights. How is that different than driving with parking lights on (in an FD of course since this is the 3rd gen tech section)?
