Alternator? what the F**k is that sound?

Well I went to my garage and turned my FD to go down to get some fuel , as soon as I turned it on there was this like loud chaffing, knocking scraping sound coming from my bay, so I popped the hood and it seems to be coming from my Alternator. It gets worse and goes quiet when it wants to but it doesnt go away, when it does the noise I notice that the pulley on the front of the alternator moves ( slightly) with the knocking and scraping sound so I'm guessing is this an alternator gone bad?

I did a search but I couldnt find anyone with these symptoms.
Any ideas would be appreciated, can I still drive it to the Rota shop?

ive been through a battery in 23000kms, it sounds like something has come loose inside the ALT and is just rolling around in there with the engine RPM ( isnt there brushes in there or something?), the car idles perfectly and runs fine , just this clunking chaffing noise, should i drive this to the garage or ya nthink its a serious problem? i dont want a belt to come off during driving

Bad bearing in the alternator. Replace it.
