Aftermarket gauges in Stock cluster.

I've been having problems with my gauges from day 1, i've gone through 2 stock clusters.

Regardless, i'm thinking about buying all aftermarket gauges, the same as my fuel pressure and boost gauge, then putting them in the stock cluster. Some cutting and building some kind of backing that it fits in would have to be done. I've seen this done on many cars, but the FD's cluster is premolded plastic, not just an opening that could be filled.

Just wondering if there are any threads with people who have done this so I can get an idea. I'm sure i'm not the first with this idea.

yes, it's been done by quite a few people. search dude, search!

right off the top of my head i can think of a thread where someone replaced the tach with a near-direct size replacement (still lots of hacking).

another thing people do is fill in all the existing gauge holes, then surface mount aftermarket gauges.

that guy with the full carbon fiber dash is doing like that also i believe.

Searched didn't come up with anything useful... you realize there's so much garbage on these boards sometimes it's difficult to find what you want.

Half the time you end up in threads with people like you saying 'search' and thats all there is.

If you want a much cleaner setup you could go with a Stack gauge cluster or something.

If you replace all the gauges with Autometer or some junk you'll have done a lot of work to install terrible gauges . Just make sure whatever goes in there is worthwhile.

Haha, honestly that wiring is kinda simple. Might be a pain in the ***, but i've already installed a racelogic and ls2 computer so... can't be much more difficult. The problem is with the stock gauges there's really not enough info.

My speedo moves with my tach at idle, i've ran shielded wire did everything i've found to try and fix it, no luck. If i get an aftermarket tach/speedo and it doesnt work I know where to start with trying to fix it... stock gauges not so much.

What that guy did looks very good and i'd consider that, however i have to replace my tach/speedo. T

he hole size for I believe the tach is an oddball so there would be cutting of the plastic, which is what i'm interested in for ideas.

See if it was just a flat surface I could make something like this. I still want to do something similiar but will be more difficult with the rx7 plastic cluster.
