If a similar thread exists, mods you may delete. I didn't feel like searching.

Okay everyone! With all the various different aftermarket apex seals out there, I thought it might be time to start posting up some long term mileage results.

Please post mileage, esitmated hp figures and years of use plus driving conditions. Also if you run premix, OMP, or both?

I'll start off!
91 stock NA vert rebuilt with Ra classics back in 2005. Engine has 45k on it with me reusing the damaged housings from when it previously blew. Premix only! Car was granny driven as it was my dailey back then. Engine hasn't ran in 5 years but I did recently fire it up and she started like a champ. No hiccups or flooding. Will do a compression check soon.

Post away!

I have ALS seals with about 7,000 miles on my rebuild. Making 350 rwhp @ 10 psi. Idemitsu premix only (no OMP). I'd like to see more posts from people with higher mileage as well!

^ Thx for posting!

You know I was aware of Ra seals breaking under extreme conditions. To those that broke them, did they cause a ton of engine damage like the ceramics?

I have PTS seals in many engines some more than 8 years old and still going strong .
Have re built one of my race motors in ser6 rx7 FD after 2 seasons of racing and virtually no wear on seals so re used them

Since my last post I've put about 2500 miles on my ALS/E&J seals on the FD. Vacuum was about 13-14 mmhg during breakin and now it sees around 15-16 at idle. The original motor saw 18 mmhg at idle. Engine doesn't seem to run quite as silky smooth as it did with the original motor, a few extra misses and sputters but it's almost unnoticeable. It is driven very very hard, almost all the mileage after the breakin has been mountain road driving...at the limit while running 10-13 psi. Also, I've noticed it takes maybe one extra turn over to start up compared to the OEM seals. I should note that I did find a large boost leak just recently and haven't run the engine since then so some of these differences might be mitigated.

As a side note, the people that post about your seal experience shouldn't post the years you've used the seals, more so the mileage and how it is driven as that's a better indicator of what life you can expect out of them. My FC has had the same reman motor since 2002 but after looking at the receipt I realized I've only put 23,000 miles on the motor since then.

Your correct about the mileage. That's the info we really need.

Atkins 2pc @ 75,000 miles. The seals were still good and so was the housing but the oil pump decided to take a crap and seized my rotor and eshaft together.

No, more like a stock apex seal in my experience. I have broken Atkins, RA classic, RA SS and stock- all in 2mm and 3mm.

RA usually break the corner off the long piece- sometimes though right down the middle of the long piece. If you look at the RA seal wear surface you will see a bunch of micro cracks- they just usually crack all the way through at this shortest distance first.

I got about 40 k miles out of one set of rotor housings with different sets of RA seals, not really good useable housings after the 1st go around with RA seals though.

Didn't run out of chrome yet
, just decided I wanted to use stock seals and different rotor housings so I could build a motor that would actually have good sealing/compression/low end power (yes, it worked).
