Advice---Should I buy a 93 RX7 running 7psi boost?Problems?

I have been looking for 3rd Gen Rx7's for a while now,and have stumbled onto one locally, however,he had the car tuned(Peter Farrel)to run 7psi boost. Why would he do this?Could there be engine problems?Any help is greatly appreciated--_Dustin

Umm... tuned to run 7 psi by PFS huh? Does it have the PFS(EFI) programmable engine management system? I know that has a switch that you can switch boost settings with(low, med, high) and maybe that's what he means it's on the "low" boost setting?

Maybe he wants less chance of blowing the motor. I doubt it. Sounds like BS to me.

Call PFS and ask them.

Why in the world would somebody have their car "tuned" for 7 psi?? There are pills you can install that help limit boost..... but 7 psi?? I've heard of running 10 psi (stock) but 7 sounds like a boost leak somewhere - you'll know once you get a boost controller.

Yeah I agree it sounds like he's trying to tell you it's "tuned" to 7 psi when it really just has a boost leak that he doesn't care to fix before selling it. Like someone else said 10 psi is the stock setting and is what most people consider to detune too for safety reasons.

BTW, ever come up to Hanover, PA?

What other mods does it have done to it? I know my car was originally modded by PFS, and the boost was limited to 8psi to compensate for boost creep with my full exhaust. My boost pattern was 8-8-10 before I got my new ECU.

Really? An 8 psi boost setting because of the exhaust?Well, this particular RX7 has the Peter Farrel full exhaust as well.I dont understand boost creep, using 7 psi,so much lower than stock.Car is still fast, gonna keep it at 7psi til iam sure I can handle 12-15psi boost. He now mentioned something about a small oil leak that drips onto one of the turbos.the car is going relatively cheap,so i dont expect perfection, but with 7 psi boost, and a small leak onto the turbo, how much am i gonna be dishing out in a month or two after purchase to keep it runnning?
