actual difference between real & fake 99 specs taillights

ok so i read the half million threads on the conversion and i can't find the answer to this question. my question is how would you be able to tell the real lights from the fake ones, once they are mounted. one person said that the real ones have a little dome where the circles are, but no1 confirmed if this was true. thanks.

You'll be able to tell the difference by your checking your bank account. With the real taillights, you'll have $400 less.

Its not fake, we may called it as a modify taillight coz it is still OEM taillight. That's sound better??

Think about the reault is looks the same as $400 99+ taillight.

You may save $$ and get another parts. Of ourse, if you are serious, OEM 99+ is your choice

Can someone explain to me what the fascination is with the 99 style tail lights? I mean the lights are round instead of square and you can only really tell when the lights are on and you are personally looking at the car from the rear. Personally I'm normally in my car when the lights are on so unless you care what others think of your car, what's the point. And even if you do only another 7 owner will know the difference and EVEN then they will assume it is a knock off, which kind of defeats the purpose of bragging rights. I mean if you want bragging rights, be original and use a bunch of LEDs or use a different lighting pattern like one big oval instead of two circles/squares on each side.

Sorry for the flame but honestly, I'm curious why so many people like these things. Is it the JSPEC craze?

I think the idea is that people want a more modern or updated look, but they want something that is subtle and appears to be stock. Very much the same reason that the 99 spec front bumper is popular.

I think the round lights simply look better than the US spec lights. The US lights do not illuminate the light housing in a uniform pattern. If you look closely at the light housings you can see dull spots between the two bulbs, this has always bothered me. I think this gives the lights a cheap/old look.

Do you only wash the front half of your car because it's all you see when you're inside? [Most] People just think it looks better, there is no novel-sized story behind it.

I think it goes back to the rx3, round tail lights looked awsome then and still do.

I agree. It is not a uniform brightness. The lense edges are washed out and looks like an old camaro/firebird. The mod or spec lenses puts the bulbs directly over the lense portals. LED's would be a decent mod if not riced out. Anyone ever do the 3rd brake-light? I'd like to see one.

I cant wait till school ends this friday(which is also my 21st B-day! YAY!!!). I am going to do the poor mans tail light conversion. They look good to me, especially at night, which is then they look best. You wouldnt be able to tell OEM vs poor mans at night i wouldnt think.

here's the breakdown, you cant really tell unless you are less than 2 feet away. if you know the right sizes and where to place them, you can do it. here is a pics of the real ones, you really cant see them that well:

I can see the back half of my car when I am not sitting in it but when I see 99 lights in the rear I never notice unless the lights are on, or if the owner points it out. My point was that ... ah never mind. I think if the rear lights weren't smoked it would be a different story.

i have to say the reason i like it is because it is a subtle change to your car. yea most ricer boys don't know the difference, but who cares about what they think; if i did i would be driving a civic. The subtlety of the "mod" is the actual point of it.

When the lights are on it makes for a more aggressive looking taillight, that is more modern & exotic looking.

the only reason i asked this question is because, I wanted to make sure that the painted circles, lenses, and everything where the same size & shape.

After carefully looking at my s6 lights and the s8 ones im about to buy...There is a noticable difference. You can see the reflectors more obviously on the indicator circles as well as the inner brake circles than s6's.

I'm about to fork out $250 AUS (used) for mine...hope they are real ones

If you could, please grab pictures of them from several different angles and distances.
