ACTB 6 puck clutch

ACTB 6 puck clutch
Can anyone out there comment on the street drivability of the ACT 6 puck clutch? My motor is out getting ported and the turbos blueprinted and exhaust ported at N-tech. While it is out an 8.5# flywheel is being put in and Nick has the above clutch in the shop. The plan is to do some road racing but it will still be used mostly on the street as a third car. Is this a clutch I can get used to or should I just get the ACTstreet clutch?

I've had mine for almost a year now, and frankly, I hate it. It has a purpose, drag racing. It's probably the only clutch out there that will take the abuse of drag racing. For street use, no thanks. I'm not bad mouthing the clutch, and have plans to install an ACT HD organic disc on the Extreme Pressure plate soon. As the clutch has worn, it has begun to exhibit charactersitics I cannot accept for a street clutch. Shuddering as the clutch is let out, a horrible "SKERRTTTCCCHHH" sound as I let it out now. Power holding? You bet, but the harsh engagement they describe on the pages is accurate. Just my two cents.

I suppose if one is used to a totally stock clutch "feel", then its not for you, but I used to have the ACT street/strip clutch and now I have the 6Puck. I love it and find that the difference is very minamal.

hey guys i know this an old thread but I have a question for you 6 puck people out there
I just installed a 6 puck with a unsprung center and was wondering how much more daily driver friendlier if any is the sprung hub one. thinking about changing for the sprung one if its a little less raw
dont get me wrong i love the grab and grip but just curious if anyone has experienced both worlds
thanks

Like what was said earlier, that clutch grabs like crazy and is awomse. But things I notice on street driving with it. It gets noisy in hte sqeaks and does chatter when getting started from a light or a stop. If you get used to it and get good at it, its really not that bad, but if you get a little lazy and let it out a little too fast it will grab and you will look like a little kid driving a standard for the first time as the car jumps and rocks. The other thing I have noticed with many others how use this clutch is that it wears out faster because you really have to slip it to get going from a stop and stay really smooth.

6 puck act
I've had one in my hybrid civic for 1.5 years their great pretty streetable after breakin but very short engagement travel but once your not in bumper to bumper traffic they tend to get like a light switch when they heat up

I've had one for over 1.5 years now.
It's driveable on the street. The pedal effort isn't all that bad.
Mine a 6 puck and I believe springless.
The engagement point ont he clutch feels like a milimeter. So the clutch is like an on/of switch.
Unless you drag race alot like Ernie does. I wouldn't get it. I want to rip mine out. It takes the fun out of driving if you enjoy throwing your car around corners as much as i do.
I'm starting to have a lot of fun drag racing so it's starting to become useful. And yes it takes the abuse of launches really well.

Forever, according to my 7 mechanic who put one in an 11 second TII.
Mine is the only NA he's ever put the clutch in, and I'm the only one (so far) to complain about the squeal and shudder (as those above have reported.)

I'm hoping to drop my 7 in my mechanic's lap by the end of the month and have him check out the set-up for any clues as to what's causing the noise. I love the clutch, but that shriek is embarassing.

I have a 6-puck ACT and have for about 3 years now. I hate it and I'm changing it out for a street/strip soon. It is great for barking the tires in 3rd gear but it is HORRIBLE if you get stuck in any traffic at all. It is normal for me to stall about once a day with it.
I don't think the discs ever wear out, if someone wants to buy a 6-puck let me know...

Hate to bring the threat back up, but I just needed to know. What is the different from S/S then the Extreme Street? I mean in the pedal effort? I know the Extreme handles more tq, but does it feel the same as the S/S or like the 6 puck? thanks guys.
