Can they make a retracable cover for it to? Like the cloth covered ones on the inside of the car?

I actually work at a glass plant that manufacturers OEM grade windows/windshields for the automotive company's. I'll give you one bit of warning and that it you have to check with the federal Transportation board if you can do that. If you put something like that into your car, get in a wreck and somebody is injured by that because it's not tempered like glass therefore it could shatter into large sharp pieces you're going to have a big lawsuit on your hands. I'll look around in our standards book and see if I find anything about it but just be careful.

The big advantage would be, even if you painted it, that it wouldn't hail-damage like the stocker. I've had hail damage twice, and the only two panels that get it are the hood and sunroof skin. the reso of the roof, fenders and hatch must be thicker metal.

Broken thanks alot for pointing that out.. I will most definatly take a look at that.. I could used Lexan which I know wouldn't be an issue.
Acrylic & Lexan are alot lighter then metal roofs. The other thing is, It is translucent or Clear depending on which Acrylic you get.

PtrHahn, I guess if you want to paint it Good luck Its hard to paint acrylic like Metal. due to the fact that Paint doesn't want to stick to it. How ever you can get it in JetBlack which isn't transparent and it would match Black FDs.

911Gt2, I could probably devise something you could snap into that would block light. But as far as retratable Not sure.. I could look into that as I was thinking about that my self also.

Curly, Advantages would be;
Lighter,
Less exspensive. [Making this for Rx7 people Only]
Transparent [allows light to pass through]
Multi Color options; Clear, Trasnparent Smoke, Transparent BLue-orange-green-yellow-neon,ect.
Also Regular Colors that do not allow light to pass
I will Include a Clear 3m Vinal allready layed to prevent scratches and chips.
