Oil not going anywhere when you take freon out. It's just gas, but oil stays there.

would anyone know where would be a good place to buy the AC lines? i'm sure there are aftermarket stores that sell aftermarket lines. or are stock lines the best/only ones that can be used

You can buy entire AC systems in the classifieds for $100. I think that would be your best bet. Use new o-rings, obviously.

What I don't get is when I de pressure the system I still can't charge it?

What are your high and low side pressures at idle and at 1500 RPM? Also let me know what the ambient temperature is when you take these readings.

Since the refrigerant carries the oil around the system, a small amount of oil will be lost when you remove the refrigerant....if you have a catastrophic failure....say the high pressure hose blows loose while the system is running, then you'll lose enough oil to need to worry about putting some back in.

When I service a system I usually put in 1/2 oz or so if I'm not replacing any major components where oil would reside (evaporator, condenser, compressor, drier).

Agree, when line burst - lot's of it lost (1-2oz) After discharge - 1/2 oz would be enough to add

Guys is there another souce for a.c lines? I am planning to replace everything on mine too, I just notice that my too is shot I took it a part then I decide to shake it and I hear small stuff inside making noise? So I decide to cut it half to see what the hell is the noise. To my surprise the freon turn into small round beads size ball? What can cause the freon in the dryer to becomes small round bead ball?

You can buy entire AC systems in the classifieds for $100 or so. I can't imagine there is an aftermarket for AC lines for an FD.

Nothing to cause freon become small bead round ball. Sound like you about talk desiccant in drier. Desiccant make of small round like-sand particles.

R-12 Mineral Oil

Dale - you score points again - I was able to find R-12 mineral oil at a NAPA about 10 miles away. Cost me a whole $8.50 for a quart too. They don't have it on display, you have to ask for it - and the bottle is kinda dusty - don't they know we need this stuff for our cars when we convert them to Hydrocarbon based refrigerants???

Actually - will any of the commonly available PAG or Esters work in a RX7 with the HC-based gases??? (I will assume that we are smart enough to flush out all of the old oil first). I'm going with the mineral oil because I don't want to change out all my o-rings - but it seems the oil ring replacement kits are freely available now.

HC refrigerants are said to be compatible with mineral, PAG or Ester oils.

I realize this is an old thread, but I found some VERY useful info about MANA driers. A company called Ready-Aire still makes the drier for the MANA system. It is Ready-Aire part number 4016 and can currently be bought at partsamerica.com for $57.99

after ordering 4 different driers from different sources and none of them fitting my lines properly, my shop and i just decided to re-work the lines to fit the available driers. that way next time its easier to replace.

That's exactly what I'm planning on doing as well. What drier did you end up using?

If anyone does attempt to replace their shaft seal, don't touch the carbon! I'm told that if you touch the carbon with your fingers it won't seal properly.

whichever one the autoparts stores all carried, the more common one. not sure if thats the mana or nippon.

also FYI for people... we ordered 5 a/c expansion valves in a ROW and they kept sending us this one:

instead of the correct one i needed which was this one:

finally got the right one from malloy mazda, but they said its getting harder to find these, so if you need one, better order it soon.
