ABS light stays on...help!!!

Okay, the other day I was driving down the road and noticed that my ABS light was on. I took the car home and checked the brake master cylinder to see if I needed fluid and it was right at the full line. So I thought that maybe I need to bleed the brakes...but why? Air doesn't just magically appear in my lines...so I guess my question is...what could it be. I think that maybe I need new pads? Is this the way that car tells you that....cause that's what my moms Mercedes does? Does anyone have any ideas?

Mine comes on every now and then. Just gets a little dirty and from time to time you need to wash the car good around there. Remember it has a little sensor and it gets dirty from time to time. Give it a good wash around the wheel area and see what happens. If you have after market pads, they might get dirtier faster from the brake dust. They do offer low dusting brake pads.

Once, I pushed the brake pedal of my '92 Bravada a little too hard at a stop, made the ABS light come on and stay on.. the dealership just had to reset it. Beware, I've seen an FD with a ABS sensor wire burned clean through.. On the passenger side, above the turbos, near the strut tower. It's a thick black wire that runs into the wheel well just in front of the strut tower. The car I saw this on had 1 (wire) burned clean through, and another (it's replacement) on it's way out... got too hot from the turbos.

the ABS fuse, under the hood, could be blown.

Another good possibility that I overlooked. Thanks...I would have had half the damn car apart before I remembered to look at that...LOL

good call brads... I'm often too quick to assume some massive catastrophic failure has happened. I never remember to check the fuse.. 'cept when it happens to me...

I had this once and there was no voltage going through the sensor on the front left brake. Ironicly the two days the anti lock was inop was the only time I have ever had to brake hard enough to lock up the tires. Ever in any car. Go figure. Another car pulled out infront of me. A new sensor is not cheap so hopefully it isn't that.

It wasnt that fuse. For some reason or another when I replaced the rear wiper fuse it went off. Or at least I think. After I replaced that fuse I went under the hood and looked at the abs fuse, I took it out and it was fine. I put it back in and when back into the car and the light was off. I drove it around and got on the brakes kinda hard and the light never came back on.
So it either "some how" it runs through the rear wiper fuse "or" it was re-set in the ecu when the fuse was pulled under the hood.
I dont really know, but either way. NO LIGHT

This is what happens to me. My wire was resting on the turbos. When it happens, I remove the underhood fuse for a day and then I replace it and the light stays of for a month or two. Mine is driven pretty much ever day... if not by me, by my brother or my neighbor.

Just glad to see your problem fixed!!!!

I do my best thinking when I'm drunk, and when I'm on the john.

I think it slows my mind down... so it's not racing a million thoughts a minute. Then i can actually get a single valid thought out....
