? about using a rx8 thermostat on the FD

My mechanic had whole bunch of rx8 parts which we used some of the gasket on my 93 FD rebuild project and most of the stuff is the same. However he gave me a new thermostat and notice it's also off the rx8. They look the same from circle and both say 83 C but the rx8 has a little longer shaft that holds the little circle gasket plunger at the end and the spring is stiffer on the rx8 theremo also. I had to trim a little rubber bump in the gasket so it was smooth all the way around so it will fit in the housing. Will this work? Has anyone tried this, or should i just go and buy another thermostat for the rx7? A lot of the rx8 parts have upgrade stuff. i used the rx8 metal gasket for the front cover it was all metal, and fit fine it even replaced the spacer on the front cover to water pump. I also noticed the fuel injector o ring has a metal insert in the o ring, which i used on my FD. I also used the metal gasket for the oil pedestal for the oil filter instead of the two o rings. Just wondering if anybody has used a rx8 thermostat?
