About how much should my car go for?

I'm having a hard time figuring out what to list my car for. It's a 93 Montego Blue 5spd with 93,000 on the body. The engine and transmission were replaced and have only 26,000 miles and the turbos were replaced as well with 47k on them.

As far as modifications go, see my sig.

The car runs great with no smoke on startup. The interior is clean and only shows minor wear. What makes it hard for me to figure out what to list the car for is the exterior.

Recently we had a microburst (read: ridiculously high-speed wind) and the car got 3 small but noticable dents on the hood and a few tiny chips in the paint on multiple panels of the car. From 5 feet away the car looks perfect.

How much do you think this car is worth?

Since it needs a new paint job, I would say 14K.

This seems way too high for me. I won't sell the car for more than $12,500, because that is what I payed for it 4 years ago.

What's the market for FD's like in your area? Very few, somewhat available? The value of these cars has risen over the last year. I wouldn't sell yourself short. List it for 14k, and see what kind of action you get, then lower it accordingly.

Ask $14k and know that you'll go down to $12,500.

Really, you can deduct around $2k-3k for a paintjob, so either number seems reasonable.

Around here FDs are very rare. Months and months go by where I don't see any except my own. I guess I'll just try listing it around $13k and see where it gets me Thanks guys.

alright, sorry to bump a dead thread, but now there is an update.

the other day my add coolant light buzzer went off, and needed ~250ml of coolant to top it off. there is absolutely zero smoke on startup.

so, I started the car cold and looked into the filler, and I saw a few tiny bubbles Also, I can hear the heater core making noses on initial acceleration.

So, this leads me to believe that my coolant seals are beginning to go. But, since I am selling the car, I have no idea whether to sell the car in its current condition or try to fix and then sell.

I need to get rid of the car relatively quickly. what would you guys do?

Sell it as is with full disclosure. Or have a rotary specialist in your area check it out.

I would list it for $15K and then "negotiate" downwards if the buyer was cool. If it is some punk ricer kid, then stiff him for as much as you can get.
Keep in mind a car with a blown engine or one that needs lots of work is not worth much at all.....you may do good to get $6K - $8K if the buyer realizes what is up.

Good luck!

Is this the first time you have had to top it off in a couple years?

If you're concerned, get a hydro-carbon test done on the coolant and also do a coolant pressure test. It won't cost to much and it'll give you a better idea what to ask. Loss of coolant could easily be due to failing coolant hoses. I've replaced 4 coolant hoses over the last several months.

You may want to consider going back to stock, it's always difficult to get someone to pay for the mods you put into your car.

As far as value, The paints not faded so don't think you have to take a hit on the paint. Defintely ask more than you want. Say 16k negotiable. These cars are crossing the auction block more often and they are growing more rare. They simply are one of the best designs to come out of Japan ever.

Good luck.
