CA About to buy this 94 FD?

http://orangecounty.craigslist.org/cto/1948901289.html

car is located in Anaheim, CA but is register in Colorado. It's going for $8.9k .

50k miles on jdm block, repainted from mont. blue to white, 15k on odometer, 85k on title. Car is set at 7psi, have not done compression test.
Please let me know what you guys think, the car is pretty muchstock besides the minor upgrade. I'm really excited and hopefully have this dream car in my garage on Saturday. I'm ready to learn everything about rx-7, had been reading alot on this forum since last week.

the questions you gotta get answered are: why is it only at 7 psi when he has stock twinsl and is he going to get it smogged for you?

Remember a car that can't pass smog= no registration= can't drive the car.

Thanks for replying, may i ask what is stock psi fuel cut on an fd? If he doesn't have a electronic boost control or manual boost controller, how do we increase the boost? He blew his previous motor, therefore, he's afraid of setting a higher boost (that's what he says)
He is not gonna get it smog, I am currently looking for that right now =[ (not easy).

That car will not be able to pass smog unless he has a hook up... That means you will have to have a hook up in 2 years when it needs to be sniffed again
Good luck

Question rx7

you need to rsearch and learn about these cars beffore buying one . lots of problems with people doing hack jobs .. why is this vehicle registered in colorado? TELL HIM TO BRING IT UP TO CALIFORNIA STANDARDS AND SMOG IT AND REGISTER IT HERE FIRST.. I BET LOTS OF THINGS ARE MISSING AND REMOVED . IT WILL NEVER PASS AND YOU WILL BE STUCK WITH THE PROBLEM.

I'd walk. Apart from the smog issues that have been noted by members more knowledgeable than I about that issue (No crazy hippy government in Florida = no smog). The boost issue PLUS a 50k JDM engine = time bomb to me.

I'd have reservations that the truth was being told. My suggestion? Pass and keep looking...plenty of cars on the forums for sale...even in CA! =)

Stock boost is 10 psi. Our cars can handle just about every bolt on as long as the boost is maintined at the stock level (no boost creep nor spikes). You say he doesn't have a boost controller (horrible idea BTW) so he did something to lower the boost at the wastegate spring...

Given that he has intakes and exhaust: I'd say the car is probably spiking that is why he is running a lower boost level

thanks for all the input guys, for wanting the car so bad, i'm temporary blinded by all the negative aspects of the car and the fact that I don't know about about rx7 doesn't help either. Thanks again, and i'll follow Jeff P input and ask him to smog and register it, if not..then i'll pass.

Doesnt the car run at 7 psi with no restrictor pills and no boost controller? He probably did the non-sequential mod and left it out. Get it compression tested and see what the numbers are. Itd almost be a good looking car (my opinion) if it had the right wheels.

Yes you are right, the car is non-sequential. What is the advantage/disadvantage of non-sequential compare to sequential ?

there is no advantage to non seq, other then simplicity.
basically you loose all your low end power, and keep similar top end power.
Insted of getting 10lb of boost from 2k-9k rpm you will have to wait till 4k or so to get the same 10lb boost.

Do not be blinded my friend. You will save THOUSANDS by buying a properly sorted car.

Disinformation is your worst enemy. Spend some time researching and learning about these cars. They are not for those who take them lightly. They are complex, old, & expensive. They are also tons of fun when you tackle them properly.

I too would highly recommend buying from a forum member.
