So it depends on your needs...cost not withstanding.

Yes it is Fiberglass, but I don't think the material makes one better/worse than the other. And since I never track my car, adjustable means zilcho to me, as I implied above. It boils down to how much $$ you want to spend, and what (if any) functionality you need.

I didn't buy mine because it was cheaper, I bought it because I didn't need the functionality the higher priced 99 Spec included.

Scott,
The 99 undertray may have been a bit vague. The tray is similar from what I could see but has a "diffuser" bolted to the underside. Kinda like a flat blade about 2 inches deep that runs the full width of the tray about 12 inches behind the front lip. If you are around over the next few weeks shoot me a PM and you can stop by and take a look at the tape.

Not to beat a dead horse but fiberglass is typically heavier and less resiliant to impacts than urethane.
And FWIW I do like them both from a style standpoint but for me it wasn't the only factor to consider. Oh and I bought my '99 used and in the factory color. No painting necessary.

C - It has a vortex generator built into it? (or something like it? or am I misunderstanding?) I'm actually out of town for the next 2 weeks but thanks for the offer - I'd love to see the tape some other time.

7racer - my source for the other 99 stuff checked with Mazdacomp and they apparently don't have any in stock either. I'm a member so I may have to double check myself.

here is a pic of the tray,

Crispy, are you sure about the splitter??

Anyways, you are right that they are currently out of stock but usually they can get items quickly...did they give you an estimate?

I got a black carpet from Japan in a week.

I used to have the exact setup your describing. Looked pretty nice, I think...

I've since sold that one and bought another.

so just to recap (cause im lost)... what improvements were made to the 99 front? i am planning on getting a 99 wing, 99 bumper/lip, and i need a new undertray anyway so i guess it will be aa 99 as well. is there anything else that will improve downforce in the front???

7Racer, Yes positive. but I have no idea where I could find an image of the piece I'm speaking of. I thought it would have been an integral part of the 99 undertray but obviously I am mistaken
But I do some searching and see what I can find

There's a Mazdaspeed front diffuser that is designed to fit with the '99+ front bumper:

I also happen to like that rear diffuser which doesn't stick out quite so much as say, the RE-Amemiya piece or its assorted copies out there.

if you scroll down it talks about the improvements to the front and the reasoning behind them...

http://www.rx7.net.nz/newrx7.htm

besides the diffuser that Crispy mentioned, and the mazdaspeed above, I don't think there is much more to add to increase front down force unless you add aftermarket parts.....as far as I know.

also, if you have the extra cash laying around....there are 99 brake ducts that elimate the oil duct cooling....one of my friends with a complete 99 front switched his out for these with only positive things to say

So Mazaspeed wind tunnel tested their front and rear "diffusers" and with both in place you apparently go from front end lift and rear end down force to front end down force and rear end lift??? (as tested on the 99+ Type RZ) I would think that is the opposite of what you want.

I think my old style RE Amemiya diffusr sticks out less than that Mazdaspeed one.

The combined brake/oil cooler ducts for the 99 front supposedly do not fit snug against the oil coolers at all. I'm having new carbon fiber ducts made to fit the 99 front end to my CWR dual oil coolers.

Is the new R.E. diffuser as effective as the old one?

i thought CWR made CF ducts for the 99 bumpers as well? no?

Those little triangles are actually the greek letter Delta, which in math terms means "change in." So a negative delta coefficient of drag means you have a reduction, etc.

doncojones- guess that's why I got a D in high school geometry!

RotorMotor - CWR has a test set of carbon fiber oil cooler ducts for the 99+ front end they are sending me for fitment to my CWR coolers.

I just got off the phone with MazdaSpeed (can you tell I'm on a roll today ordering parts?) and they said this part goes inside the radiator opening in the 99+ front ends to properly route air to the radiator. I ordered it, along with the 99+ undertray, and unfortunately they are both on backorder from Japan.

Crispy - It is apparently not the small spoiler below the undertray that you saw in the video. Also, I'll let you and the forum know about the 99+ CWR oil cooler ducts when I get them fitted.

this damn info has me confused as well. I have a brand new undertray I bought from Malloy. I also have a brand new Pettit 99 spec front end that will be going on when my exterior is done in a month and a half. Are you guys saying the undertray won't work with the Pettit 99 front

My bodyshop told me that the old undertray can be made to work with the new Mazda front end (and even more likely the Pettit replica). However, mine is trashed after all these years so I'm taking the opportunity to replace it while I do the 99+ conversion.

Hey - what does all this have to do with the 99 rear spoiler???
