Fan is $27 and some change from Ray at Malloy...
|
^ As in each (fan = singular) and not a pair?
I hope my previous reply didn't sound bad. Although stuff is cheap in Japan like used strut bars, they will not ship to the US. Therefore we have to pay someone to bid then pay shipping their shipping, pay bidder some profit (cause no ones gunna do it for free) and then pay bendover rates from Japan to the US. |
Update!
I took the old fans off the motors, the diameter of the shaft on the new fans is larger than the existing motor's shaft. It would fit but not tightly and would likely vibrate itself loose or fall off. I'll call Mazdaspeed motorsports and see if the motor was also updated. |
There are new motors as well. They are lower voltage, I believe. I can't remember the specs. Are you going to buy those also?

Am I going to buy them? I dunno, depends on how much they are. |
Here's something else...
I'm looking through the RX-8 shop manual right now, and from the pics it seems the RX-8 uses a 5 and 7 blade fan setup. Wonder about using those motors, or those fans, or etc. Hmmmm! Dale |

This is what i did to fit the J-spec fans to my existing motors. I used .014 brass stock I robbed from a $4.00 set of feeler gauges from parts store, (had to explain to parts kid what a "feeler gauge" was??). Cut and trim and rapped around motor shafts to form a bushing of sorts. Fans now sit on shafts nicely with no run out. Here's what it looks like. Hope this helps. I hope the new fans and new fluidyne radiator will resolve any cooling weakness of the car. Check out my camo'd guard dog!
Ciao, RACRX |
Radiator and fan assembly with 99' spec fans are installed. Fans seem to move a lot of air with very little noise! After I install the sway bar and bottom pan I will take it for a good test drive and see how the fans work in traffic. I suspect that the real test will be durring the summer months when the temps are up.

Cool fix racrx.
How did you get the bend on shim to match the shaft? |
Thanks turbojeff,
Use the shaft of the motor itself as a form. Make the brass strip a little longer than needed and wrap it around the round part of the shaft till you get to the flat side of the shaft. Then fold in towards the flat to make the corners. Then trim the excess so the ends meet flush and not over lap. Then fit the bushing in the fan itself and with a nice square object and make sure the corners are pushed in tight. It takes a littlepatience but I did it at the kitchen table with just some basic tin snips and hand tools. Remmember to use .014 stock. On another note. I will try to get you a money order tomorrow for the battery tray that you are selling. Thanks, RACRX |
i know im digging this back up again.... but i never heard what the final verdict was on the 99 fans (if there ever was one). i heard lots of talk but no numbers... -heath

OLD bump.
turbojeff and racrx, I was trying to see if there was an easier way to put the brass stock in to shim the fan. I have only been able to find steel feeler gauges. They are a PITA to bend to fit. Anyone with any good ideas to mount the 99 spec fans? |
I was wondering about the chrome rings and guage faces, was that the price for 1 or all of them?
Tim |
i would like a verdict too

So, we can call it the "Protege fan mod" :). Dale Which blade corresponds to what part number? |
stilll going on......
Ok the Fans are the EXACT same PN as the RX8 (99-02 RX7). In Japan the each FAN is $35. The PNs are as follows RF1S-15-140------7 blade fan RF2A-15-140------5 blade fan Enjoy.... |
hmmm....if that's the case... is the fan motor also the same on the RX-8 as it is on the 99-02 RX-7?

7racer---- The motors are not the same.
Sled Driver---Im sure thats due to the Parts being on the RX8 now, since otherwise Mazdacomp wouldnt have them or they would be more expensive. |
So, basically the RX-8 fans will work but not the motors. So who has the motors?
