93 Base Model Body Electrical question
So my FD suddenly stopped cranking. I first noticed it in the middle of a drive, because my PFC isn't tuned, I tend to stall when decelerating.
So over the past few months, I've replaced the Starter relay and the Ignition Switch, and tested the clutch switch and starter.
Today I was rooting around under my dash looking for any obvious faults in the wiring when I noticed a dark green/grey wire (solid color, not striped or spotted) which wasn't attached to anything. I found this wire sitting behind the drivers side kick panel, just under CPU No. 2. I couldn't see where the wire led to, but wherever it comes from, it's definitely secured as I only had about 5 inches or so to work with.
I've been digging through the FSM and haven't found the color codes for the wires, but I did find CPU No.2 controls the ignition switch. So I was wondering if someone could help me out as to whether this wire may have been ripped out of the connector or if it was a leftover wire from one of the PO's hack job installs of something.
My FD has been to hell, now with a lot of help from Goodfella and Rotary Experiment Seven and some very generous parts donations from RedR1, I've been bringing it back. It's not unrealistic that this wire could have been just barely hanging on to begin with then fell out during a drive.

I had a similiar problem wires keep falling out from under dash board drivers side, and it wouldnt crank over once in a while for no apparent reason. So I did some investigateing under the dash with a flash light. Good thing I did some hacks had hacked and cut there way threw my whole harness and ignition wiress. I dont know how the car didnt burn up in flamess or why more dont. So I grab the wire cutters and started triming. Two hours later I cut out miles off wire not one but two diffrent alarm systems and all the junk that goes with them, and Had to add 4 inches of ingnition wire on to replace what was what was hacked and cut and bypassed to get there death trap wired up. Now problem free .
Take some more apart to find out where this wire goes , if it was a add on or not. Does it have a factory plug or is it spliced in , or old gorund for something

Im not suggesting that any body just start cutting any thing that was just what my problem called for . I would hate to have somebody cut somthing they thought they should cut and make the problem worse or create another problem.

Without seeing the car, my guess is that the car had a poorly installed aftermarket alarm at some point, and it is causing the problem. I despise these things. 90% of the ones I see are installed wrong. Nothing is soldered or properly crimped. I've seen wires held together with the twist on caps used for house wiring, or in some cases just held together with electrical tape. They leave a ton of extra wire and don't bother cutting out the excess. I've personally seen these botch jobs short out and cause small fires on several occasions. Many of these so called "alarm experts" are a frickin joke. All of the wires in the factory harnesses are crimped. My advice is to check the service manual and find what that wire goes to. Remember that the wire colors can vary between different years. It may help if you remove the small panel under the steering wheel to get more room to see up in there.

under the side kick panel is a blue relay it is the alarm/starter disable relay. did the wire fall off of it? should be 4 wires going to it. got a test light the circuit is simple enough. ign swirch to clutch switch to alarm relay to grey connector up by battery to starter solenoid

The loose end of the wire looks like it was half assed twisted to something. It's flat, there's excessive stripping of the insulation and it's kind of wavy, like it was twisted together with another wire.
I haven't been able to follow it back yet, it just kind of disappears behind the dead pedal, but I think it goes to the bottom of the fuse box. I'll try to get in there and take some pictures today.

I took what pictures I could. My only digital camera is my cell phone, so you'll have to try to use your imagination a bit.
The first picture shows one large cable running from the firewall to under the carper. I assume this is the fuel pump mod that Rich and Ihor did, but I'm not sure. It is also supposed to show the bundle of wires that the broken wire is coming from. it's 3 different bundles coming to one spot. It's been wrapped in electical tape right around the spot where the broke wire is coming from. I didn't undo the tape for a better look yet, I'll do that tomorrow. I can tell you that the wire is frayed and te insulation is broken right around the connector area, but I can't tell you if it's spliced into another wire or a factory part of the harness.
The second and third pictures are the loose end of the wire, trying to show about where it sits naturally and what the end looks like. You can also see the big red cable in the second picture pretty well.
The fourth picture is a white, female 3-post connector that is just hanging around in the bundle of wires. I didn't see where this would plug in to, if anywhere.
The good news is, I got under the dash and all of those wires appeared to be factory and un cut. The only non-factory wires under there were some electrical wiring Rich and Ihor did for my gauges.

Today I removed the electrical tape and the green wire just fell out.
It was wedge into a connector with a white/red striped wire that is part of the factory harness. It's a larger gauge than the rest of the wires in the harness, but it appears to be factory.
I haven't attempted to start the car since removing the greenish/grayish wire. I was wondering if anyone knows what this white/red wire goes to and if it was grounded could it cause the car to not crank?
Also, could unplugging the starter cut relay avoid the whole poorly wires alarm system mess?

what an f... en mess that was
Your wire problem still doesnt sound like it is factory

the three pin coonector? do you mean the white female three prong ? that doesnt plug in to anything .
Look up undernieth dash at steering wheel colum. the wireharness that you will see is the ignition and stuff make sure those wires are not spliced cut or frayred does thats still look all factory and no electical tape mess ?
Check your plug and wiress that go to clutch pedal button when you press the clutch if you have a clutch
Is your factory securty light blinking when you try to start it?
Do all the dash board light turn on and beep chime at you when you turn the key ?

Sorry you said you already tested clutch switch
See if that mysterios wire mathces up with one of the ignition wires on steering colum up under dash that you would hot wire if wanted to steal a car
