Can you use the 94 interior parts in a 93? I was going to buy the shifter cover and the AC cover from mazda trix and just get the 94 so I don't have to deal with the pealing issues.

The finish won't match -- the 93s had a smooth satin finish, the 94-95 have a pebbly more matte finish. 93 parts were no longer available the last I heard, although I may be wrong.

 

I think you will have to replace everything with '94 stuff if you want it to match. Last time I checked, the entire set was $1500+. You could also geta body shop to paint your existing panels - should be quite a bit cheaper.

$807.13 last year when I got a quote from Ray @ Malloy. I only need to purchase the panels for the doors to complete mine.

 

They are still available. A new 93 set is about $120 more than a new 94 set.

 

The new years interior parts fit, but no offense to the '94/95 owners, it looks cheap. IMO, the best option is to paint the '93 interior panels.

I hate the cheap, thin plastic feel of the 93 stuff. Painting it doesn't really help this.

Is the 94 stuff any thicker? Does it squeak as much as the 93?

Nope, same construction.

The driver door pocket is not included in the door armrest trim. (The pocket is $150 I think).

The vinyl center tunnel piece is over $200 I think. The plastics behind the seats and in the trunk are $100-200/ea.

Y'all need to call Ray and ask, really. Or fiddle with www.mazdapartscheap.com - Ray's prices are consistently 10% lower than them if you don't feel like bugging him.

No, driver's door bin is not included. I have the JDM ashtray armrest, so I was just going to have the driver's door bin covered to match it.

 

The '94-95 parts squeak and creak just as much as the '93 parts. IMHO it's REAL hard to beat a seat of '93 plastics that have been professionally sanded and painted - I think that's the way the designers intended the interior to look. But, I think the '94-95 wrinkle finish parts are just more durable and hold up more easily.

BTW, Mazda came up with new '93 interior panels that have a matte finish instead of the gloss of the original panels. Worst part is if the original owner of your car would have complained to the dealer about it, they would have replaced ALL the panels FOR FREE under warranty. It's right there in the TSB's. Of course, that opportunity is LONG gone.

Anyhow, if you buy '93 panels now you'll get the matte finish. Not sure if I like it better or not.

To the original poster - get the parts from Malloy. Mazdatrix are nice folks, but you'll be paying a HUGE premium to get the same parts from them - they sell stock parts at pretty much Mazda's list price.

I was thinking about the squeaking issue more.

Mazda put a very thin felt tape where one plastic piece overlaps and touches another one - naturally these things peel up and fall off, so the plastic now squeaks. I can get similar adhesive thin rubber strips or felt, but they will still peel off unless you're really careful during assembly and the adhesive works a lot better.

So now I'm thinking a rubber undercoat spray on the faces of the panels where you can't see them might work best - this would prevent plastic / plastic rubbing and squeaking and they would have the benefit of making them feel/sound more solid.

Hmmmmmmmm, this could work very well if it adheres to the plastic.

That's a pretty good idea, Dave. The only one that really bugs me is the center console - that bastard is BIG TIME squeaky .

something that helped center hump squeaking (and eventual cracking) for me was to apply tiger hair (loose fiberglass mixed with resin) to the underside. there are nice little plastic "cells" that hold it in place. Makes for a much more solid feel and MUCh less squeaking.

I tend to push off of the center console when getting out of the car, I'm sure others have done this, whether or not you did someone along the line probably did. These hairline cracks make a lot of noise. The tigerhair is a very simple, cheap solution.
