600cc Honda CBR wants to go with my FD?

I have a friend with a 1995 Honda CBR 600cc bike with a freshly rebuilt motor. No mods, just the rebuild. He wants to have a go at it with my FD. My mods are only downpipe and cat-back right now. So I know for 300% he will DESTROY me with the mods I have now. I am going to wait untill I have the M2 stage 3 ecu, greddy airnix intake, 3" SS downpipe, HKS Hiper CB, greddy 2-row fmic w/ polished elbow, taylor 8mm wires, walboro 255 fuel pump, 1200cc secondary injectors and HKS twin power ignition before I race him. With those mods boosting about 13-14psi on brand new motor and turbos (both have about 1,200 miles on them) do you think I stand a chance at lets say a 40mph roll? Thanks guys.

PS: Mods, please move this if it is in the wrong section.

I think CBR 600's are highly over rated. I had a 93 and road in a 97 and I think there fast but from a roll, a modded FD can take it, no problem. From a launch you will get toasted. With the mods you have now, it would be a good race. With the mods you mentioned you're getting, you should kill it from a roll.

Boy, this "bikes vs cars" stuff is sure popping up a lot lately...

A roll from 40 mph? If the rider has any skill at all (and not much is required in a roll accel contest), and doesn't weigh 220 lbs., he will beat you. As long as he recognizes where the powerband is, and starts in the appropriate gear, he will squirt out ahead of you due to the power-to-weight ratio, and stay ahead until around 120 mph, where you might make up the distance if you had enough room.

Again, it's dependent on his riding skill.

from a roll is your only chance, even then if the rider is good you will lose.. but you wont get killed with your new mods.. but dont even try untill you are ready

I am only going to race him when I have ecu, intake,dp,cb,FMIC,hks twin power ignition and 8mm wires. He is actually a really good rider. His brother is a part of the socal riders and they go out doing wheelies at like 70mph, indos, tank stands (at slower speeds though) etc... Not sure how his racing skills are.

So what's the verdict? Some say I will win, others say I won't? Does anyone have experience with racing 600cc bikes and good riders with close to my mods? Thanks.

I ran a newer GSX-R 600 or 700, now I can't remember, in a stock Supra TT the I kinda "borrowed" from my pops, but I got pulled hard from a roll. I'm not the greatest driver in that car, but I drove pretty well and still, the GSX-R pulled away. Then he had the ***** to ask "Wheres the turbo?". Little punk, I should introduce him to my boss and his R1. Josh

My friend has a older gsxr600 that he raced me in just playin around, He said I pulled on him the entire time he was in 1st gear and 1/2way through second at which time I was probably almost into 3rd but as soon as he hit the powercurve in 2nd gear he flew by me like nothing & Ive got 360rwhp, He was extremely impressed how I pulled on him and is also an owner of a heavily modded bridgeported turboII...
I dont think there are many people here running less than 450rwhp that can pull on a rocket all the way...

Negative, ghostrider. If he has even moderate skills, the 1995 CBR600F3 will yank him in everything but a roll-on from 100 mph. Power-to-weight rules below 100mph (and even above in some cases).

This whole thread is just wrong...

Christ, even my 800 lb. 2002 BMW K1200 LTC motorhome could give any near stock FD3S a run for the money in a quarter mile.

ANYONE who knows how to launch a modern 600cc sport bike with a sticky rear tire that is running right will kill an FD3S in a drag.

Period.

just for reference, i rode with a friend of mine in daytona in his barely steet legal 911 turbo that dyno'd at almost 650 to the wheels. the car weighs 2200lbs and we pulled up next to a zx9r at about 20 mph just before a light. light turns green and we drive by him, but not by much until over 120 (maybe 2-3 car lengths). after 120 he was a dot in the mirror. i know it's a different displacement, but i have to believe decent bike even with a mediocre rider is hard to beat. btw, the car had 335 good year slicks on the rear, so there was minimal wheel spin. i love my fd, but i won't confident enough to go with any crotch rocket until i have at least 375 rwhp.

i don't think that anyone is suggesting that he will win from a dead stop or even at lower speeds.

No, from a dead stop he will not win. I've owned a CBR F2 600. They're not that impressive, not to me anyways. From a stop they will take any car. From 60 or so, it just didn't accelerate as strong as my FD. I've gotten the bike up to 130mph and I know modded FDs can get there faster.

Just race him and see what happens then. Remember, from a roll..

This reminds me of when I raced a CBR600 awhile back in my bros 300ZX. We were going about 50mph and we were side by side the whole way. The funny thing is while we were going, he looked over and gave a double take. Maybe he thought I was long gone We went all the way to 120 or more. It changed into one lane so I got in front. Then he decided to slingshot pass me so I couldn't do anything about that.

Good luck man

It's summertime, and eeeeeevery summer this type of thing comes up. People start buying bikes (lately, all the wrong people, IMO) and eeeeeevery summer, there's lots of people that either total their bikes or kill themselves doing stupid ****.

My recommendation is to take it to a strip, if your buddy with the bike wants to make a go of it...streets are way dangerous, especially with low-visibility vehichles like bikes </soapbox>

Thats right, take it to the track, I know a guy that died from street raceing his bike. A car pulled its nose out in front of him whiel he was going pretty fast, his bike hit the nose of the car and he went flying, he later died at the hospitol.

I have raced a Nighthawk 750 from a dead stop and killed him. I know its not really a "sport bike" but it was still fun.

A 1995 CBR600 is the F2 i believe. It puts down roughly mid 80s hp at the wheel and weighs in over 400lb dry. I used to have a yzf600r and it had about the same dimensions and the magazines could get it to run 1/4 mile times of roughly 11.8.

Basically, if your car is modded so that it could run low 12s, then it'll be good, if not...

...also, past 120mph or so, bikes lose the advantage of not having good aerodynamics, in which case cars have a good advantage....

Just to mention other bikes so that you don't go messing with them...don't go mess with the...new suzuki GSXR1000. Puts out 152hp to the wheel and weighs in at 400lb.

I raced a friend with a '96 CBR 600 from a dead stop 4 times in a row. The first three times he said "go" and he pretty much left me from that moment. The last time I said "go" I got him by a full car length on the launch cause he blew it, at about 25mph he blew by me like I wasn't even racing.

Look up the specs on the bike. I think a good rider will run mid 11's with them. Are you that fast?

Cars to pick up an advantage on the top end. Power to weight doesn't matter nearly as much as the speeds pick up.

On a different day he dumped the bike trying to keep up with me on a twisty road. He was also the owner of a modded TII.
