3D printed FD rear speaker grills
Hey guys, so I've been working the past week on making a rear speaker grill for the FD since... well... used ones aren't quite easy to come by. I have a previously Bose-equipped car that the previous owner removed and replaced with rear speakers and left the pocket covers, soooo I scavenged for rear speaker grills to replace the old pocket-style covers. And low and behold, there was nothing... Except for a couple of super expensive OEM options, and an already 3d printed version that another person has made, that I was NOT a huge fan of. So I went out and tried making a 3d model for myself and making it a bit more OEM-looking.
Everything was printed out of ABS (which admittedly was tough). I tried to keep a tight "mesh" so that nothing could be seen behind just to make it look a bit cleaner in the car
And I also kept the same style of mounting points. I tried 3d printing the mounting points straight on, but I found it to be better to break those off to leave an imprint of where the mounts need to go and then print mounts separately and use ABS glue to chemically adhere the mounting points on. Put the stock clips on the top 2 posts and add some foam-backed tape to stop any rubbing and to make the fit nice and snug.
All that's left to do is line up the bottom tabs, push them down, and then push them in and stand back and admire
They follow the shape of the holes perfectly and am very happy with them and thought I would share it with all of you guys.

What color do you want? jk lol. Would be interesting to see how well of a 3d scan I could get on something like that though
I do want to try and see if I can get a good scan of the driver-side and passenger-side door plastics and possibly print those?

There is a "U" shaped piece of plastic that encloses around the B pillar end of the hatch struct, that is attached to the inner rear quarter panel. (it looks like it is heat welded on), That piece gets very brittle and i think most people's would be broken by now. The LHD and RHD versions that piece are different.
That may be a welcome piece that many people don't know they need (because long gone).
As it comes with the panel it does not have it's own part number.

The "U" shaped pieces can be seen in this pic of the rear q-panels for the back seat set up. The :"u" is bigger to accommodate the rear seat belt pass through. You can see that for both pieces the "U" is already broken. They will further shatter the second you touch them,
When these pieces are missing though the gap around the strut base is quite obvious.
