long trips in FD

Guess it depends on the shape of your ***. NC to PA and back (1200 miles) without a problem- make sure your wallet is not pressing into your sciatic nerve or you will get a killer leg ache. Using cruise control, putting the seat back and taking a 15 minute snooze helps too. Wife says I zone out and look like I *am* asleep sometimes. That's what those ribbed strips on the sides of the interstate are for, right ? To wake you up during high speed shut-eye?

The way there stayed behind a LS 300 doing 120 90% of the time. Dropped to 90 b/c some jackass wouldnt move out of our way....On the way back 300zxTT and some Mercades that I cant remeber..badass though. We were at 140-150 70% of the way..never dropping below 100 though. Got to about 16X (was looking at the road so I dont know exactly) with the mercades..Z didnt wanna go that fast I guess. But did catch up once we dropped to 140ish again. We passed a yellow 2001 Diablo 34ish year old bastard rich guy (wish he would have joined) and 2 new porshe 911 TT with older ladies behind the wheel of thoes beasts (grrr). Was cool staying in 3 digits for 175 miles...once on regular roads though 50 seemed like I should get out and walk. Yes I know Im a dumbass.. dont flame me I know, i know. And I know deep down most of you would have loved it too.
oh man, I-75 is heaven !!

hahaha, I was just reading this. I'm 6'6" and my brother is 6'8" and other than my brother constantly complaining that he's too big for my dad's mazda, but not mine (because it's a FD...lol) apparently, we can both fit in the Mazda no problem. In every other sports car or low car that I've been in, my head either rides the roof or my legs block the steering wheel. I'd have to say the Rx-7 is quite amazing for space being a sports car.

I am 5'10" only 150 lbs, but I always have backaches in other cars, at work, lying down. but in the FD I feel great. I guess the design of the seat suits me. I love it.

but 1800 miles on highway just seems boring nomatter what you are in.
Couldn't said it better myself! My back is never sore in the FD and even travelling more than 3 or 400 miles and I'm 5'11" with a touring and have to recline the seat a bit for headroom. I could easily do a thousand stint like I used to!

I'd agree with the thing about cruise control... I'm 6'3" 230lbs. during a long drive my back and butt are fine... it's my right leg that starts hurting... maybe I could use a brick or something?

I'm with Goodfella on this one. I've been between Knoxville and Dallas 7 times now in my 3rd gen and I've been to Florida once in my 3rd gen. One trip I went Knoxville, Dallas, Houston, Dallas, and back home in under a week. I LOVE the 3rd gen seats .... I have a 1st gen now and those seats suck.

I picked up my FD in Mamaroneck NY, just north of NYC, near the CT border. I took the Tappan Zee bridge the the Garden State Parkway to the NJ turnpike, heading for Philly. A little over 1 hour and 70 miles in, my right leg (thigh) started twinging/cramping. I ended up shifting it around for the rest of the trip.

5'10", 250 lbs.

Heck yeah ... After a long night of driving/racing ... i'll pull into the driveway, crack the windows, shut it down and fall asleep. FD seats are some of the most comfy car seats i've ever sat in.

After the motor blew ... i still would go out there and sleep in it ... heheh

I've made the trip from Phoenix to Montrose Colorado a couple times in teh last 6 months, that is about 700 miles each way and no cruise is also my only complaint. My right leg gets so damn stiff I have to stop once in awhile to walk it off. I am 6'5" 190 lbs. I have also made the trip once in my '74 REPU, if you want cramped and righ reved engine for extended periods that is it!

I just drove a van 1752 miles in 32 hours to look at and test drive a 1994 rx7 with 18000 original miles. My van didnt even have the cruise control working.

In a week I will be flying down to South Carolina to take delivery of the 7 and will be driving it back to Ohio along the scenic route. Expect to put on 1000 miles in two days. Yes its cruise control works!

Will let you know how I feel when I return.
