Damn if I lived in Hawaii, I'd be hiking or on the beach all day and I wouldn't even have a 7

All very valid points. And for the record, I'm 23, have been driving my fd since 96 and have never caused a accident and have never had a speeding ticket. And WOW I did not think that the way I worded my thread would cause to get so far off the topic.

amazing how that happens huh?
So anyways, back on topic. If you go thru the trouble of getting to the gears you might as well get the Kazz or T2 diff and throw it in at the same time. Because Murphy's Law will bite you in the *** as soon as you start driving. And then the diff will **** out on you. And you'll have to go rite back into the housing again. So IF you go thru with the change do them both. OR wait for the diff to go and Then do the gears and diff.

Cool

i found the best place and way to test any after market part on my cars is on the track. you get actual time slips and it's a controlled environment which enables you to go ALL OUT, especially when you're having to determine which type of gearing you need.

EVERYONE has their different styles of driving, whether it be aggressive or just leisurely, each individuals purpose for having a BEAUTIFUL CAR like the 7 is to basically show off it's attributes, whether it's in the motor, suspension or the way it looks.

i personally have been there and done that on the streets (remember the illegals?). every now and then you'll still find yourself in that situation, but it's that split decision that separates not only life or death, but definitely respect and disrespect. As a low 12 second daily driver, i can't say i am not tempted to race, but i guess it just got old after a while...

bottom line, if you get the parts... understand each parts capabilities on the track versus the street. too many factors involved in determining what's better...

to answer your thread... and someone correct me if i'm wrong on this, but the lower the gear ratios the slower the pickup but you get better top end - better for highway speeds and the high the gear ratios the quicker your low end but lose your top end which is better for the stoplight to stoplight races.

now if you don't have sticky enough tires and you find yourself just spinning on first gear - you've already lost the race...

n e wayz i think i've rambled on quite a bit - a lot more than i could think right now...

sorry fellas...

see ya,

But thanks for the info on gears and LSD.
Well, yes. I'm telling you that, and I'm not lying. I know what cars my 7 can beat and there aren't many around here. My life is a little higher quality than running the strip and looking for races, so sorry. I have plans to do autocross and road racing.

Street racers make 7 enthusiasts look bad.

4.777 = really bad gas mileage BTW. 1st Gear w/ 4.777 final and high Horsepower = much wheel spin. I HAVE to run 275 Nitto's on the back(or the stickier BFG Comp T/A's) to keep any type of traction.

why not just get a used full rear unit from a stock fd...

1. Cost much less than getting gears and having them installed.
2. will get you up to the stock 4.1 gear ratio which many of us think is the "sweet spot"
3. You will have your stock rear in case anything ever breaks

YOU KNOW WHAT - I SAY, BECAUSE OUR CARS ARE QUICK ALREADY, JUST FOCUS ON GETTING SOME STICKIER TIRES, CONSIDERING THAT YOU DON'T SHIFT BELOW YOUR POWER BANDS - WHICH IS BELOW 5K RPMS. THAT WOULD DEFINITELY BE THE CHEAPEST - IT'S ALSO THE CHEAPEST TO REPLACE UNTIL YOU BREAK YOU DIFF FROM ALL THAT HOPPING.

JUST DON'T LOSE!!!!!

Angry

This is the pussiest thread I have ever seen. I'm 30 years old, I pay my taxes, I drink but wont drive, I love my children, and my country. I, however, must be weak and immature, a sort of cancer to the society of true FD3S afficianados, CAUSE WHEN SOME PUNK *** MUSTANG GT OR VR-4 OR CAMARO SS OR 300Z OR HONDA WHATEVER PULLS UP NEXT TO ME REVIVIN' AND GLARIN', I AM GOING TO GIVE HIM A LESSON IN HORSEPOWER TO WEIGHT RATIO. Thats just me.

we all would, the nay sayers are just on a high horse.

hell if the mustang has a big wing i might even rev at him to get him to try

edit: however when a street race turns into doing illeagle manuvers and shifting around cars alot thats where i draw the line... im up for a quick acceleration fun up to the speed limit, maybe even 10 over... but weaving through traffic is just plain dumb.

i dont street race in traffic, but i will be the first to admit that most of my racing happens on the street. This is usually about 1-5 AM and with no other cars on the road. I am however not afraid to open her up around a little bit of traffic.

i try to keep any "street racing" on the highway. theres just too much of a chance to get a big fat ticket (let alone hit a pedestrian or another motorist) on city streets. really it depends where you are though. there have been 2 incidents where i have done a little draging at a light (with a brand new M3)... it was a very long, wide, suburban street with all the cars in back of us and open road up ahead. at the time the car was unmodded and i hung with him just fine. other time was at night with a motorcycle at a light. no one around... needless to say he was served rotary style.

anyway, its all fun untill someone gets hurt/killed. i make a good effort to keep all "street" racing off of city streets, although from time to time i may have a little go w/ the locals. i do have to admit that i race on the highway, which may or may not be even more unsafe however. yes there are fewer cars and MUCH more room (especially at night), and yes you are less likely to get a ticket (if you know where to watch out for), but the danger is increased as the speeds are MUCH FASTER. i am not saying this to brag, or even to critisize anyone that races on the highway... id just like people to be (somewhat) RESPONSIBLE (hard to use in the same sentance as street racing) when they are gettin on it. use your good judgement. i have taken the car up to 150mph and it just seems like fun untill you think about the possibilities for disaster. all you need to do is hit a little bunp, get some air under the nose and flip the car at a high speed.... i guarantee w/out a roll cage you WILL NOT SURVIVE. please, use your good judgement.... all of us have done stupid things before (im not going to pretend to be a saint), but please have the sense to use good judgement... lets all learn from each others experiences and not total another FD, let alone loose one of us. -heath

PS i dont know anything about alternate diff. gearing, but why not use the 4.1, and up the HP if you need to go faster? seems reasonable to me

Dude, you need a carbon fiber cow plow. This way if some little old lady wanders in your path while racing, she won't interfere with your chances of winning.
