Very nice presentation.
This guy is quite knowledgeable, creative and at the same time down to earth. Electric water pump, dual capacity oil system, lightened rotors... plus the four-rotor sounds great without any hickups or sputtering. The tuning on his car must be perfect for it to sound that good.
Plus low-end torque from a rotary!!

I used to live near this guy, and he used to cruise the streets quite often.. although it's been limited to drag meets recently.

In other NZ quadrotor news... Mazda SP20 26B-PP dynoed up 855whp@7900rpm on 18psi and ran an 8.99. They're looking to break the NZ fastest rotary 8.61 record this season
For anyone interested, I enquired about costs to build a 26B, and they said it'd run me NZ$100k
Something to note is we have 98 RON octane pump gas here.

70k US is just ******* ridiculous I heard the e-shaft was only 4k. I can see why they would jack the price up to stratospheric levels because they could. It's all about supply and demand. I mean hell you could buy 2 brand new FD short blocks and have 90% what you need to build a 4 rotor short block. All you have to do then is buy the eshaft, buy 1 extra center housing and have 2 of them upgraded with the extra stationary gears, and purchase the new tension bolts. This is how Autotech built there's with the old 12A parts. That price is just outrageous IMO.
Anyways since he spend the money on such a project, I don't understand why he didn't go with the 10:0 higher compression Rx8 rotors. He still could have used pump gas. This would have easily pushed the power level into the mid 600 ranges and would have been worth the updrade in this kind of set-up. .

I think he said 590 hp and 360 lbs. Would be more with higher compression rotors though. For reference, the Lemans 787b engine had 10:0 compression rotors and had the exact same displacement as this engine. The 787b made 690hp.

I guess with your reasoning, you could purchase 2 x 20B's from our local auction site for around US$3k each and strap them together to make a 6 rotor 40B without any hassles

IIRC the 787B made 690 at 9K rpm. After the Le Mans Mazda took it apart. saw it was in perfect condition. put it back together. raised the redline to 10.5 and hit over 1k hp without modding anything else. they kept it at 9k redline b/c they we're scared it wouldn't handle it at that high.

So how much just to have the engine short block built or could one have individual parts shipped in to modify? I knew the e-shaft was more expensive than I was originally told. I was under the impression 100k NZ (70k US)was just for the engine so I apologize it I bent you the wrong way.
The main reason why you don't see these engines available here is the sure fear of custom shops charging tons of money to build one because they are so rare. You also have to understand that no one wants to spend that kind of money on a 11-13 year old car and never get a return on their investment. There's no demand. The same goes for 20b swaps. Most people here believe that you have to spend upwards to 30k US just for a 20b swap, when I now for a fact that it has been done much cheaper than that. You can get away with charging that much for the 4 rotor if you are one of maybe 2 shops in the whole world currently building them. That's why I made that comment about supply and demand. If there were 10 other shops (allowing for more competition) building these engines, the prices would odviously be far more reasonable.

No I don't think it's that simple. Thats still doesn't change the fact that you would still have 90% of what you need to make the engine (minus a very small percentage of the custom internal parts).
