200HP on the dyno yesterday
Sup fellas. I ran my stock booty car yesterday and got an ugly 200 at the rears. I'd post the dyno sheet, but don't have a digital cam. Here's the thing, after a few runs I was even more confused than I was before about the way my car is running. The first runs were all pulled in 3rd gear showing very un-steady or jumpy patterns. I knew that my car was unhealthy going in there, but I didn't know that it would show sings of such illness. The next set of runs were pulled rowing through gears 1st, 2nd, 3rd and 4th. Then a pull just through 2nd, 3rd and 4th. These were substantially worse. Each gear showed unsteady patterns and once peak HP was reached in every gear, the graph showed fluctuation. In other words, very jagged.
During the runs, something came to my attention that I thought was weird. My boost pattern only acted normal during 3rd gear pulls. And even then I was only getting 10-5-9 with a very lagging transition at the 5. When I did the 1st or 2nd through 4th gear pulls, all hell broke loose in my mind. I was pissed. 1st gear proved to put out maybe 150 hp, 2nd a little more, 3rd being closer to 200hp and 4th tagging 200. What got me really thinking I had serious problems was how the boost acted in these runs. The boost came somewhat decently steady in 1st, no transition noticeable, in 2nd my boost was stuck at around 7 maybe 8, in 3rd more of the same and in 4th the friggin same thing. I don't know if this is normal or what, and again, no my engine is not at all 100%, but for a healthy engine, shouldn't one see the boost go through 10-8-10's thoughout all gears if done in a test such as the one I used yesterday, pulling in every gear? The boost characteristics are eventually going to be the tell-tale calling to what needs to be done to repair the car, but for now it's way to intermittant and I'm still to young an FD owner. I'll be doing more runs to try and fix it in the future.
Thanks for any response in advance,
Ant

Sounds like it might be some boost solenoids. The car is bone stock? How many miles, check the compression? A heatlhy FD should put down 210-225 wheel horsepower bone stock. It doesn't help that you have boost problems. What kind of dyno was it? And get an downpipe and intake or catback for numbers sake!!

Bone stock eccept for a Greddy TT and Autometer boost gauge. Miles are 103,500, haven't done compression yet, and I think you want to know what kind of dyno to match with my HP numbers. Right? I don't care so much about that as much as I care about the way my boost was behaving throughout the gears ie. stalling at 7 or 8 psi. Why do you say the solenoids, what do they do and how would it affect my car with them not working properly? Thanks, just trying to understand these complex machines in as simple of terms as possible.

I work at a place that has a dyno. It was my bosses idea for me to get to know the dyno with my car as a guinea pig, so I did. A week after buying my car I knew there were problems with it. I knew it wasn't 100%, but I didn't and still don't know what exactly is wrong with everything. I just know that it still pulls quite well for being a car with over 100k miles. The first thing I noticed, and this is still very early in my relationship with my R1, I noticed lots of oil dripping from a couple of places in the engine compartment. Well days turned into weeks and weeks turned into two months. The oil started showing up more abundantly. It was so abundant, that it made me start driving more cautiously, WAY more. I thought it was the end of my infancy with this car. It smokes anytime I boost and if I park after boosted drives, it'll practically **** oil on the driveway. In fact, yesterday after I drove the car off the dyno, there was a lot of oil on the ground. Like maybe, a quarter to 3/8 of a cups worth.

what is your vaccum at idle? thats a good way of telling the health of you engine. it should be around 16-20inhg, can your car idle?
Well don't feel to bad about your car putting out such low hp, mines is even lower then that but i just took out my restrictor plate that turns my exaust from 1.5inches to 3 inches as well as replaced my sparkplugs (old ones were super black/fouled)

My first Dyno Run only netted 175hp- When I pulled my plugs after I found them to be totally worn out & fouled - I could feel the HP gain when I replaced them. You are only down abt 30 HP from stock (255fwhp-10% driveline loss = 229.5RWHP) Put in New Plugs a & Wires and you may gain that all back.
