13B-RE (cosmo) info
where can i find some information on the 13B-RE engine, which comes out of the 2 rotor cosmos? I hear ray lochead has one of these in his 8 sec FD, and that they are supposed to have very very large ports, but i havent been able to find any good info on these. thanks

The one thing I do know is that they had sequential HT-10 turbos, which are smaller than the HT-12 setup used on the FD. I would be surprised if the Cosmo 13B was better than the FD 13B from the performance standpoint in any way (ports, etc.).

The Cosmo 13B intake ports are 5mm larger in height than the FD engine. They are basically the same as a 20Bs ports.
The turbos were smaller than the FD but this was because the Cosmo was auto only and the smaller turbos came on a bit quicker.
The intake manifold itself is slightly different as well. The FD has 3 x 50mm butterflies (2 x secondary and 1 x primary I think) and the Cosmo has 2 x 45 (secondary runners) and 1 x 50mm (primary).
The Cosmo engine used a CAS whereas the FD used a true CAS with an optical pickup from the crank itself. (I could be wrong about the pickup but I know its direct off the crank).
Hope this helps.

so the only thing better about this particular engine is the larger intake ports on the housings? sounds like the engine could make more power if you were planning on porting the hell out of it and replacing the turbos with something larger, or maybe a new intake manifold, but in stock configuration less powerful...thanks guys.

I have done an 11.1 @ 125 with my engine in a 1st gen and my heavy ****. They make good power, more than a 2nd gen engine will in my opinion!
