Does anyone know why the Cosmo 13b REW has a different style intake than the RX7? It is more like the 20b intake. I don't suppose there would be a difference in torque possible between the two? Possibly the RX7 manifold was modified to fit under the hood? Not really importnat just curious. I like the look of the Cosmo intake better myself

it fits our cars, as long as you have the LIM to match it, and u cannot use emissions with it

Well i searched some more and it seems the belief is it is a better intake. If so why don't more people use them?

Oh I see that makes sense. So do you know if there is a power difference? Most of the folks on this site forgot about emissions a long time ago.

I just bought a set, I'm going to try to figure out the emmission stuff.

I'll post pictures, if you like.

here is the link where you can get some.

1) the 13B cosmo lower intake manifold gasket(so if you port your motor, port match it to the gasket)

2) 13B Cosmo lower intake manifold

3) 13B cosmo upper to lower intake manifold gasket

4) 13B cosmo upper intake manifold

5) 20B cosmo throttle body

6) throttle body elbow of your choice

7) 13B Cosmo fuel rail(or fabricate your own)

8) block off the ACV on the outside of the 13B cosmo lower intake manifold

You can use the FD throttle body, HOWEVER if you go this route, you will need to get rid of your idle control valve. The reason you want the 20B throttle body is 1) It's bigger. 2) It already has an idle control valve on it.

You will need to relocate your air temp sensor to the throttle body elbow(or you could tap the cosmo intake manifold) and you will need to take off your FD TPS and bolt it up to the 20B cosmo throttle body.

Not the hardest project in the world. I think the hardest thing will be to get the throttle cable to work.
If you have a NoPiston's account, you can see the how-to/write-up here:

So has anyone done any real world tests to see if there is significant power increase to see if it's really worth it? Otherwise it sounds like a lot of expense. How difficult are the gaskets to get over here? I just looked at Nopistons and they have some side by side pics. I guess the RE is a lot shorter runners so less torque. i was thinking they would be longer for some reason. Still looks cool

No comparison because you will probably never be able to port the Fd primary intake runners as big as the cosmo runners. The cosmo primary runners are the same diameter as the secondary runners. Mazda did the same thing with the 20b intake as well. The larger cosmo runners have 2 main advantages.

The larger primary runners allows the engine to ingest more air in all rpms (which is great for top end power). This can also help increase low range torque provided if you have a fast enough spooling turbo however, there is a small side effect. You will lose some low end in off boost cruising cause the larger primary runners and overall shorter runner length, will slow the air's velocity into the engine. Think Bernoulli's principle!

This is all pretty good to hear, I just bought a 13B, and now it arrived and it's actually a cosmo motor. I'm busy stripping now, gonna give it a street port while it's apart too.

Does anyone know if there are any differences in turbos between the 13B-REW and 13B-RE Cosmo?

I did some more research, and if all the bigger ports and higher air flow are good, which I agree to, then howcome it only produces 220hp and not 255hp+?

Smaller turbo, I think.

Here's a picture of mine. 13Cosmo LIM and UIM 20B TB. Motor has to be ported to match the LIM. Overall not too bad of a setup. I can't say it gave me much more power. 496 at 22lbs
