10mm Plug Wires and Ignition Settings.

Anybody ever have to mess with their ignition settings when switching to 10mm plug wires? I put on a set of magnacore wires and my two step and rev limiter stopped working right. It would cut out a little, but not like it should and the engine would push through the rev limiter and keep slowly revving higher. So i started messing with my powerfc and changed some of the timing settings to retard the timing a little, two step started working and so did the rev limiter. Anybody have any advice on ignition settings with bigger plug wires or anybody ever experience this issue? I'm running the PowerFC Pro with ignition cut and built in two step. I posted this in the PowerFC section, but only advice i got was to contact someone about joining a tuning group on yahoo...

I've never heard of plug wires changing anything. Generally plug wires just need to do their job of getting electricity to the spark plugs, if it does that then they're fine. Unless your old wires were really tired or something.

i run the same Magnecor 10 mm wires and while i don't do the 2 step i found zero difference as to timing V my 8.5 MSD setup. perhaps your prior wires were somewhat less than optimum and you had your timing set differently to make them work? just a longshot guess.

as Dale says above, they shouldn't change setup. 'probably look elsewhere.

changing the wires shouldnt change anything unless your old wires were bad or if your old wires were the reason for high rpm break up/spark blow out.

as for things stop working check the wire order. maybe you put them on in the wrong order.

if the plug wires are reversed leading to trailing and vice versa you should check and fix it asap.

Well its the stock map on the PowerFC so the ignition settings werent adjusted to fix the bad wires. The wires were old as **** though. It started after i swithc to all bur9eq's and the 10mm plug wires. The plug wires are on right i assure you. I'm not the dumb. All making a complete connection. Idk why it does this until i retard the timing. I figured the extra electrical spark might be causing it to push through the rev limiter or something because with the PowerFC Pro the rev limiter is ignition cut instead of fuel cut.

If you have a good O-Scope that can give you an accurate display of the spark pulse, then while observing them; go to Settings 4 and adjust the dwell times for best spark.

Will it make a difference, I do not know because I never had accces to a capable O-scope.

Oscope= oscilloscope in Engineering land and it is used to measure electrical signals Im pretty sure he is referring to this device. Sometimes they are on Craigslis,t well old ones anyway, or ebay but they can get quite pricey
