The highest unleaded Ive heard is 100. You dont plan to make this a daily driver I hope, since it will probably get costly.

I dont know about anywhere else but here in San Jose Cali, the highest unleaded is 106 octane. Anything with higher octane is considered leaded.

yea i think 106 is the top. I got 103 down the street form my house, last time i bought some it was 4.25 a gallon. Theres are chart that tell you how to mix hi and low octanes to get lets say 92 or what ever you want best way to go since it can get costly. o i forgot that Boat docks sell 92 since boats still use in in CA

That "106" octane rating is used by companies like 76 and Trick Racing fuels in advertising for their unleaded racing fuels. It's a "RON" or "research octane" rating that is done under low-load/mid-rpm conditions, which doesn't really apply that well to racing engines, but sounds better for sales because the number is higher. The MON or motor octane number is determined from a high load/high rpm test, and is the rating that is more applicable to what a high performance vehicle needs. It's much lower, though, and doesn't look or sound as good. The MON of the 76 and Trick fuels is actually somewhere around 95.

Sunoco makes a GT Plus unleaded racing fuel that has a RON of 109 (which I believe is the highest for a readily available unleaded racing fuel), and MON of 99. I've used it before, and it provides a definite performance increase-- but it's expensive @ approx. $6 a gallon.

I think VP makes a "Motorsport 109" and a "CRP" spec fuel for Toyota Atlantic cars that have higher MON numbers, but these are specialty fuels for specific applications that you must order in advance. They have a readily available "Motorsport 103" that is similar to the Sunoco GT Plus unleaded.

hey seanfd3s,

you can get 100 octane at 76 on Almaden Expressway in San Jose. Or you get 106 (unleaded) and 114 (leaded) at SpeedMerchant.

I have always thought of mixing High octane fuel with low octane fuel, is like pissing in your Pepsi, and expecting it to taste normal..

I'm pretty sure Small airports usually carry high octane fuel.

They have 100 low lead. WHich isnt that bad, but theres talk here that aviation fuel characteristics are different than car fuel.

It is, as long as the sticker on the pump is the EPA-specified one. Remember that it's an average, so while the RON may be good, the MON test results (the one that really matters) may have been poor.
