A rotary engine should last over 100K if it is well taken care of, and not modified much.

My last FD had 147,000 and was still running strong. I rebuilt it before it let a seal go. Kevin Landers called me when he opened it up to do the rebuild and said the motor was the closest thing to true carbon lock he has ever seen. Guess the 65 yo dude I bought it from wasnt joking when he said he never got on it.

I'll be happy if my next motor sees 40k.......no really, I will, considering I bought mine with 26k on it and it was dead 1500 miles later.

So 40k miles should be good for, oh, about 5-6 years. Yeah, I could handle that.

Bragging about 100k... and folks wonder about the appeal of pistons?!? Sheesh. Rotaries are a cool novelty, they can make some power, but man this is insane...

I'm just glad I sold my FD before it done blowed up (m2 everything, meticulously gone through for reliability and I still worried that it might grenade on me.)

Now I've gone and ripped out a mint FC's soul in favor of the ls1. While you've got a live 13b I'd drive it as is. If (when) you lose one you might want to check out torquecentral.com. They're your cars so do what you want.

You know the biggest problem Ive got with LS1 is that it means losing boost. I know you can single turbo the LS1, but lets be realistic. Most people who do the swap go from TT to N/A. I'll be honost, Im going LS1 and Im gonna miss the **** out of that feeling.

I don't think that the purpose of the thread is to start another debate over piston Vs rotary.
with any motor: boost it, race it, abuse it, whatever... the longevity decreases.

I agree that the feel of a boosted motor is fun, and has seat-of-pants fast 'feel'... but I also know that smooth application of power over a broad range will be much faster. not just from the RX7 world, but in many other applications, I've done my share of off-road racing and know this to be a fact there as well. as a bonus it causes less fatigue to the rider/driver in long races.

that said, my brother's rotary car was nice when it was running. he didn't abuse it, it died. took it to a local shop that was supposed to be good.... got ripped off. he has a car with no motor now, and is going LT1.

following that, I bought a dead FC with the purpose of going LS1....
