SOME UPDATES/ FURTHER RESEARCH

Okay, I am like the gift that keeps on giving, been working on some of the questions you guys asked.

1. The cluster will work just fine WITHOUT the MAP sensor hooked up, obviously the boost gauge wont work, but the cluster doesn't beep nor throw any codes.
2. A RHD dash panel / hood will NOT fit in a US car
3. Here is the 99 spec cluster lit up at night:

4. A customer of mine who purchased a 99 spec cluster removed the film and here is what it looks like with the stock bulbs and no green film:

Right now we are working on finding wide angled LED's to make them brighter, we are also going to work with different colors too (red, blue etc). This means that we will offer a service for both US and JDM clusters that will allow you to choose the backlit color of your choice! We are also looking into multi-colored LED's that allow you to choose a color depending on your mood or whatever color you want it to be. Lots of updates to come for that service in the future.

Whaaaat! Why didn't you do this sooner? I totally would have had mine done. This is a good idea. As it is, I think Im going to leave my Spirit R cluster amber.

Good to hear! Was everything coherent and seem logical when you were going through the tutorial? Any suggestions?

I really love the updated look of the newer clusters, but having the speedo in km/hr would annoy the hell out of me. Plus 180km/hr is only like what, 112mph?

Yes, we have solved that problem. Here is what you do:
Take the needles off of both the US speedo and JDM speedo
Then remove the black face off of both speedos - only the face
Swap the JDM speedo face to the US speedo and now your speedo will read in MPH up to 180.

I have someone here in Gainesville who can do this for anyone who is interested. The only downside is that it renders one of your speedo's useless.

Will the light still flash as its plugged into the oil pressure plug?

Your welcome, enjoy your new cluster and take your time on the install

Well there is no light on the boost gauge, so whether you have it hooked up or not doesn't matter. Due to a difference in voltage your temp gauge warning light and temp warning light by the check engine series of lights will both show but this can be solved by just removing the bulbs. This is for 93 to 95 fd's, shouldn't have to add the ground or add a map sensor line on 96+ fd's.

Sorry for being thick, just want to clarify

The add coolant lamp gets removed, I presume the buzzer still works if the coolant is low?

Is this the only light affected?

I'm not worried whether the boost gauge functions or not.

Thanks.

No worries, hopefully this will clear up any confusion. I already took the bulbs out of mine, but I circled in red the two lights that would be lit up:

Again, this is due to a voltage inconsistency between early and later series fd's. You could leave the bulbs in, they would just continue to be on, they don't make a beeping noise. These are the only two warning lights that will be on. By removing the bulbs I would easily assume that it would not effect the buzzer since the buzzer isn't electrically related to those two bulbs.

Interesting note, on my new 2002 cluster (thanks pure) the check engine light (from my 93) has been replaced by a low oil level light. Makes sense being that the oil pressure gauge (and oil level light) has been deleted in favor of a useless (to me anyway) oem boost gauge.

The oil level light is the one on the far right of the left bank of four lights (as you look at the gauge faces) and the Airbag is right next to it--third from the left. I also removed my airbag light b/c I'm running a pimp non-airbag Nardi piece

I may be okay as JDM RX7's warning lights are different to the USDM ones. When the cluster arrives, I will connect it up with no mods first & let you know Bryan

99spec cluster

Thanks for the cluster purerx7 everything works great, This is how it looks like..sorry for the picture quility.
The best part is Everybody was saying about how they rather have ember lights
swaped so I was about to do same.., but just to prove 110% worng it matches amazing with my Greddy boost gauge+ power Fc and commender and hks boost controller because they all have Green lights.... so if I went with ember backlights I would cry by now, Thanks for the cluster pure!!! good write up

Okay we finally finished out first red 99 spec cluster for a customer. The pictures show the color to be more amberish, but it is a true red in person just couldn't get it to photograph well. Looks SUPERB in person, going to do this setup with some defi's for my car. For those wondering, the removal of the green film is $65 and the LED's are $35 plus the addition of the 99 cluster.

I found that in my Japanese '94 R2 I didn't need to remove any bulbs, as it doesn't throw up any lights etc! (USDM RX7's have a different warning light layout etc, so it is still an issue for USDM RX7s as Bryan states above)

The only difference light wise is: What used to be the cat over heat light is now the oil low light, it functions properly as the cat light though (Tested it )

All you need is the ground & map wire for a JDM rex it seems

The first thing I noticed with this cluster is its accuracy. Its spot on! My original cluster was out by a fair way (Especially the tach).

It also has only done 12km from new!? YES 12, not 12k.

Very pleased with it & I highly recommend Bryan @ rx7 boutique

Thanks!

Tom.
